3rd generation 4runner front seat swap?

Just picked up a 97 4runner LTD 4x4 today. 130K on the vehicle. The driver seat back is stuck in an uncomfortable position and I don't find the bottom portion to be all that comfortable either. My sr5 seats in my soon to be sold 1st gen are pretty nice and I already miss them.

Wondering if anyone on here has swapped out their 3rd gen seats for anything that they would recommend. I could care less if they stay leather or not. Dont need to keep the seats electric either.
I did a quick search this evening and found a couple threads on other forums I will dig into when I get a break this weekend.

everyone digs pictures so here are some off the dealer's website.
PS the 4runner got a good detail before my test drive, dont mind the floors ;)

I know guys in 1st gen Tacoma's are swapping to Scion xB bucket seats. I think there is a write-up floating around somewhere....

From what I hear this only works if you are like 5'8" or so, the seat sits too high otherwise.

True, but I've also read that the Scion TC seats sit dramatically lower the the xB ones. In the little bit of research I did on measurement comparisons, the seats were very similar (TC vs. 4Runner). I was also looking into the possibility of swapping in some IS300 seats... but the 4Runner sold before I pulled the trigger.

What threads did you dig up on the seat swaps rickashay? I am certainly interested in doing something with the seats as they're pretty poor quality in their current form...

On the plus side, I have a new axle under the 4Runner so I'm happy there!!

You could always search Craigslist for some early 90's Volkswagen Recaro front seats. They're comfy with large bolsters to hold you in. Can be had for a decent price if you look a bit. They will be more expensive than Honda seats though.

I saw a recent write-up where someone had swapped Corbeau or Mastercraft seats into their 3rd generation 4Runner...

I am a bit confused.

I have a 99 4runner LTD, and the seats are by far the most comfortable I have sat in. I am wondering if it is a matter of everyones *** being a little different, or if it is a quality control issue on Toyota's part.

I do know that the Sport edition seats are terrible. They used a denser foam which everyone says was terribly uncomfortable.

My '04 Doublecab Tacoma seats are pretty bad. Only problem is that I am '6"5 so there won't be any Scion swaps other than the radio. I am thinking I may pull them apart and glue some canvas onto the foam like we did in old cars when I worked at an upholestery shop. They are just waaaay too soft for my taste.

I did drive a Ford Edge the other day and the seats were really comfy but I felt like I was driving a freakin' bathtub with those high doors on it.

I vote you try the IS300 seat swap. The pair that I found was in Calgary at a junk yard. Might be work a look, and bring your measuring tape. I'd love to see those seats in a 3rd gen. Keep it Toyota-ish.
