4D34T what to look for

I bought a 4D34T engine for a conversion, does anyone have recommendations on what to check or what failure points exist? I would like to ensure the engine is in good shape prior to installing it into the new vehicle, but I don't particularly feel that a total rebuild is in order. It is from a 1999 Fuso with roughly 80K miles of daily deliveries and runs well.

Thanks!

well mate i cant really tell you of any obvious failure points, possibly because there arent many at all. they are a good reliable, and fairly fuel efficient motor, they dont put out gob loads of power or torque, but are acceptable. they also take a fair bit more than stock power (ie boost and fuel), its not difficult to get 200hp out of one. its a very similar motor to a cummins 4BT, or a isuzu 4BD1T (which is not direct injection).

So, I bought the truck, stripped it last weekend and now have a motor, wiring and trans that looks pretty good.

Any idea what I can do to get a couple more ponies out of this engine? The pump is electronically controlled, it uses rheostat accelerator pedal, but I'd bet that there might be a manually adjustable full fuel screw on it. Ideas? Am I looking at a chip?

The truck is a 1999 Fuso FE-SP, 145hp, 275 ft lbs. It's going in a Land-Cruiser which weighs 4500 lbs so it should scoot along just fine but more is better :sombrero:

Thanks
