54" Roof Mounted LED Light Bar BLUNDER - Why I went with a hidden LED light bar

I've had multiple sets of 500s that were built that way. Only had one set of 1000s and I've wondered if they we're counterfeit... but who counterfeits a cheapish light? They usually go for the real expensive ones.

Oh, I know how they are built, I was just wondering if the one that took on water, was not seated right in the back housing. I have gone through river crossings etc here....maybe yours was submerged longer etc. But my lights look like new and were bought in 2008.

Yup, nothing beats a silvered glass reflector. I also really prefer a beam pattern that's achieved through a refracting lens instead of a free form reflector. Don't know why. "They" say free form reflectors are better, but my eyes say otherwise.

Sealed beams are also totally submersible, and in fact are the industry standard for lighting pools, ponds, fountains, etc. Never have to worry about water intrusion, and you don't have to rely on seals and gaskets. I've had a set of hella 500s and a set of Hella 1000s ruined when water crept in around the bulb and corroded the reflector. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get them dry inside. No worry with a sealed beam.

Totally agree. Plus, sealed beams are available *everywhere* at a modest price. OK, maybe there are ways to vomit a bit more light down the road. How far ahead do you need to see, anyway?

Don't know if it was your camera, or something else, but that bar did not seem very bright.

Yeah it was the camera. Just a phone cam. Went camping with 30 other trucks a few weeks ago and it was the brightest one out there.

There aren't any reflectors in the bar, it's all done with optics so all the light just goes forward. No bouncing around inside first.

Tapatalk - because smoke signals would be too easy.
