5th Gen 4Runner Trail: Doing it right the first time...

Hi all,
This is my first post but have been a long time follower. I've been overlanding for years only we called it "out of the car camping" back then :ylsmoke: I recently bought my very favorite vehicle in July. Took me almost twenty years to be able to get behind my dream car, granted they have changed over the years but love the look and feel of the 2016 trail edition. Here in Canada the trail edition only comes in Premium and KDSS. I'm not a huge fan of the Sunroof or the KDSS but still love the vehicle. I've already got the KO2s on it and now I'm looking for additional ground clearance. There seems to be a bit of confusion on proper lifts and kits especially with the KDSS. I've been asking for opinions and suggestions for a few months now on other forums and local 4x4 Accessory Shops and have a range of opinions What I don't have is answers from actual owners of 5th generation Trail Editions with KDSS.

What are the best 2-3 inch kits out there that will increase the clearance? I also like the look of the 4Runners that have an even level front and back. Future additions (weight wise) will be a Gobi Style roof rack, front and rear steel bumpers and swing gate on the rear for extra tire and gas cans. Are all those extra additions significant enough to look into specialized shocks etc?

As I only have limited resources this is looking like a longer term project but really want to do it right the first time. Any advice will be appreciated!
Thanks!!!

Check out http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/ for the best answers from enthusiasts, owners and fanatics who are where you’re looking to be. If you’re looking for a budget lift I’d take a look at Toytec’s base level kit: Ultimate. It’ll give you the height you’re looking for at a fraction of the bigger name brands such as King, Icon or Fox. Plus you select KDSS model or not. See link here: http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/BOSS-Suspension-System-for-10-4Runner-FJ-and-GX460_p_1060.html . As far as racks go I’d keep looking for another roof rack; check out Bajaracks, Frontrunner Outfitters and Prinsu. As far as bumpers go take your pick; too many to name. Kudos on the KO2s; I’ve got a set and absolutely love them.

All the hip kids use the word Overland(ing)!! Congrats on the purchase, I’m certain you’ll love the 4Runner and look forward to what you come up with.
