6.0 bulletproofing

I've been talking to several shops in my area and all of them seem to prefer removing the engine out the front of the van, instead of removing the body.

Following UJOR, it would seem Chris would prefer the body removal option. Any pros/cons to either option?

Anyone in the PNW have a shop they prefer for this job?

Only reason to pull the body is if you're doing head studs or head work. Makes it easier for injectors too. If the van has a full interior (camper) then pulling the body isn't really possible but if the interior is simple then it makes life much easier.

Its not a lot of fun pulling a 6.0 out the front. We've done it but..... no fun!

Studs is definitely what I'm after. I already have the oil cooler upgrade and the EGR delete done. Van does have a "Custom" interior from California Camper Vans, but nothing too crazy. I think the body bolts are still accessible, but haven't looked too closely.

Gotcha. Guess you'll have to decide...... pull the interior apart or fight the motor out the front! Fun :)

There are two shops that I know of in the Seattle region of Wa State that can do the 6.0L bulletproofing. I know of other diesel shops in the region, but these two shops I have frequented and am happy to recommend them to other diesel owners. Not sure if you have contacted them or not, but worth a phone call or a visit if you are in the area.

Pulling the body on my plain passenger van wasn't that bad.
What is all on your to-do list?

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll look into those shops. My to-do list is clean the turbo, and replace the head gaskets and do head studs.

Do dummy plugs and standpipes while you are in there. OEM gaskets.
The BulletProofDiesel 7.3 fan clutch adapter is also money well spent.
Check your cac boots. Mine needed replaced.
Put on a new belt
Look at upgrading the alternator while its apart too. The stock one isnt sufficient and can lead to other problems.

If your going to have the motor out to do studs I would consider replacing the wiring harness. It's likely pretty cooked with lots of brittle connectors. And maybe o-ring the heads.

MG recommended Vision Diesel to me and they're very thorough and did good work on my 7.3 but they're just south of Portland and I don't know what part of the PNW you're in.
