The ol 92 is driving like a boat with her worn out springs. Plus she needs a small lift to go with the 33's. I dont do any real hard wheeling. Most of my dirt travel is on FS washboard roads. I loose all my fillings from the chatter. I know it will never ride as smooth as a rig with IFS. I am looking at a OME 2.5 lift. can you set it up to be tolerable on washboards? Also is there any specific tires that would help with the ride?

OME 2.5 is a good way to go. That's what I run and found the ride quality to be better then the stock springs. You also can customize the spring rates according to your specific needs for the truck. It is a great kit and can't say enough good things about it. Regarding tires, that depends more on your application. A 33x10.50 works great on an FJ80. I run 33x12.50's and the rolling resistance is a bit noticeable. A good all around tire is the time proven BFG AT, especially for the southwest where you don't get alot of gooey mud. That's my 3 cents on the matter.

if you want a great ride, go with FOR (frankies off road) and maybe cut a coil to get it down to 2.5"..as is is 3.5". if you want a firm ride, go ome medium kit. the ome shocks seem to be a bit stiffer than the custom valved bilstiens in th FOR kit...its better suited for having some weight from armour.

Go with the Old Men Emu medium and I know you will be happy, I started the same way did not want to get get a suspension were I needed to do alot of modifications, and it worked!Oh! and it is Baja proven; washboard at is best!

Cool I have figured on the OME. Just wanted some info on how it workes on wash board roads. Taking the ol girl up near Flag tomorrow by Stowman(sp) lake for some quad riding/camping. Then shooting over near Payson to Mt bike Cabin loop. Not looking forward to the road with the old worn out suspension.

Go with at least the medium. I run the 850/863 (heavy/heavy) with 25mm spacers up front. I also have the added weight of an ARB bumper, Warn 8274 with wire rope, and an extra battery up front, sliders, a fridge, tools, hi-lift, air compressor and sometimes tow a boat on the back.
Will you be adding a bumper or anything? If so, go heavy now and save the trouble and money of swapping in the heavies later. I'd also recommend using Slee's 3 degree caster bushings instead of the 2 degree ones from OME.

850/863's all the way. Then if you do an aux tank and get heavier in the rear go to 864's (super heavies). We have 850/864's and our 80 rides like a caddy on washboard. We also run a mild mud terrain in a 33" size. Tire stuffs perfect and we never rub. That tire size is large enough for anything we do. Most overland stuff you can get away with 285's.

Dave, I was thinking of picking up a set of spacers for the front of my rig. I have 850/863's. A bull bar and winch on front and stock bumper on the rear. For normal use it sits really ***-high, but when loaded to the gills for a long trip it is almost level. I'm curious if you think going with the front spacers would cause me to ride ***-low much on the bigger trips. I'm of the mind that only in certain circumstances would I see that scenario. Would I need the long travel shocks for that? Thanks man

Kristian, we have spacers both front and rear on our 80. 1" Slee's upfront and 1" MAF's outback.... i think you won't notice the rear being ** low too badly. What shocks are you running?

I don't run a lot of weight in the back and, even with the front spacers the rear is a little high.

i second the Frankie off road suspension i have installed it on 3 80series and everyone has said bar none it blows away the ome and slee lift the ride of your truck will be better then an ifs truck trust me
with the frankie spring you can cut them down to a 2" lift if 3 is to there is a write up on mud of it and yahh i was there cutting them down
