83 Suburban 6.2 Project

Sorry about your house!

I've enjoyed reading about your Suburban! I'm a long time 6.2L/6.5L fan myself. Here's what I've owned to date:

'77 Blazer (originally 305 that I swapped for a 5.7L diesel that I later swapped for a 6.2L diesel)
'81 C20 pickup (originally 305 that I swapped to 6.2L diesel)
'86 K10 pickup (factory 6.2L diesel)
'86 C10 Suburban (factory 6.2L diesel)
'95 Tahoe (factory 6.5L turbo diesel)

My '81 was a long term project that started out as a simple stock 6.2L swap, and went through several overhauls over the years, and finally ended up as a .040 over-bored 6.2L with custom lower-compression pistons, high-flow injection pump, gear-driven timing, Garret turbocharger pushing 18 psi, and 4" exhaust amongst other things. It was a fun truck. The body was starting to rust through again, and I felt it was time to sell it after putting 14 years of love into it. Still makes me sad to know she's gone!

Here's a pic of her before she sold:

Enjoy your 6.2L!

Yikes, I feel your pain. Got a call from my tenant two weeks ago that there was water pouring out of the ceiling of my upstairs bathroom and had flooded out three floors before it was caught. Upstairs neighbor's toilet failed, backed up, and overfilled, flooding his unit and mine. Of course it was 5pm on a Friday. Drywall and carpet in three rooms being removed and replaced. I hope everything goes smoothly for you. Fortunately for us, the strata's insurance is covering the entire restoration and repair, so I don't have to fight for coverage myself. Hopefully, your insurance takes care of you.

Insurance is covering everything but the cause which was the roof. We got an ice dam on the north side and then the water ran back up under the shingles. I have to pay to fix the roof so it is getting pro panel and the leak should be no more.

Also the old suburban just became the wife's new daily driver as the POS jeep compass CVT is going out (40K miles) turning it into a giant paper weight. I wish I had been there when she was looking at that POS, but it was before we were together.

On the up side I get to pull the old 65 out and get it on the road for my back and forth to work truck :).

So I got my bushings for the new to me springs for under the front of the burb. Now I just need time to swap them in and it should be riding level side to side again.

Got the new to me springs in and went out to see if the tires still rub.DSC01270.jpg

No rubbing!!!

Today's project for the Dodge. I have some left over 1/2" fuel line, so I ordered some fittings and cleaned up the filter base off the Duramax I sold and made a bracket to mount a cat 2 um filter under the intake horn.

Once the filter gets here I will mount it up.

thinking of doing something similar for the suburban but I would want a heated base I think.

Found a mopar severe duty filter kit for a smoking price for the bacon wagon(name stuck to the suburban). Has a fuel heater and wiring harness, I pulled the wires for the water in fuel sensor out of the harness since the filter I am going to use won't need it (it's not built into the filter like the one from the kit). Now I need to make a bracket and mount this filter in the original water separator spot. I will probably shorten the harness when I start mounting everything. I will also use the original fuel line heater wire to fire the relay for the new heater. I am also debating putting an electric fuel pump in series with the mechanical one.
