Yeah hurry up already!! LOL Glad to see things getting back together. Breaking is always a pain in the butt but sometimes things come out better after a fix/refresh or whatever!

Bushwacker fender flares

I have the same cut outs for my 86 Suburban. I'm trying to figure out the best approach to cutting the rear fenders and re securing the inner to outer fenders. Suggestions?

been a while but best I remember I did not cut enough off in the rear to seperate the inner and outerand if I did I would have just welded it back together. I know in the front it did seperate and I just used channel locks to clamp them and welded it up.I am thinking I may have just tacked the the rear in a couple spots but I am not sure and cant see it in my mind what I did. I would say i will look but once the flares are on you cant see that part. I think there are pics of me putting them on earlier in this thread.

yep on page 21, and now I remember I did just clamp them together and welded them up in spots, did not run a whole bead.

Fender flares

I went back and looked at more of your progress. I saw where you cut the rear fenders. Did you do anything to close the void between the inner and outer fenders?

I went with a Gear vendor O/D unit as well. I have a 350 with an edelbrock 122 e-force supercharger, headers, water/methanol injection. 315/75/16 tires, 410 gears, FF 14 bolt rear, end, 4" lift spring all round.

I think I am indicating about 5 mph slow right now, but at approximately 65 mph I am turning between 2200 and 2500 rpms. I had the transmission rebuilt and they installed 2000 rpm stall converter so it turns a little higher than before.

nope just clamped and welded.

That is about the same RPM I am at now, with 4:11 gears and 37" tires I hope by putting a gear vendors in it will drop me to 1800 - 2000 range.

At 60 you should be golden. It really revved before the O/D. I forgot TH400 also. I decided to stay bullet proof. The gear oil gets dirty. I change it each oil change. Only about a quart.

Ooooh.. I love to see a beauty of a motor sitting in its new home. Awesome work! :D Glad you caught that potential situation you had before you buttoned it all up.

Trans is bolted up, crank pulley installed, headers and oil dipstick bolted up.

Well I am only about 2 hours of wrenching away from starting it up, just need the starter, carb, distributor, core support, battery trays and battery then a little wire connecting and coolant hoses. All quick and easy, but it's supposed to rain the next few days so prolly wont actually hear it run till next week. The good side is my 15 yr old son will be here Sunday so we get to work on it together for the first time.
