Also check the oil filter adapter. I think there are 2 or 3 o-rings in the 90 degree adapter that can be replaced for a few bucks. Or, you can eliminate it completely and just screw the oil filter right to the block, which is what I did on my '95 ZJ.
I really liked mine, but ended up getting rid of it when the transmission started to go. It started slipping the week our daughter was born so it wasn't in the budget to pay for it to be replaced and I really didn't have the time to do it myself. (Yes, I replaced the filter and adjusted the bands - I knew it was a futile effort because of the shavings that were in the pan) Anyway, I really liked that Jeep - fun to drive, easy to work on, and rode like a dream. I would really love to find a clean one someday to just leave stock and have as a weekend cruiser.
Good point on the o-ring. We did that on my friends XJ 4.0 (all the same)...ended up having to chisel the adapter loose to fix the o ring, but it worked like a charm!
pretty severe power steering leak going on. Haven't determined the source yet. It's blowing everywhere and getting suckered into the intake. Pics of that to come.
