'99 Tahoe - Expedition Build!

Do those sliders work okay as steps? I like that style and I need to do something that will work as a step for the kids and the Mrs :ylsmoke: How about grip-tape (any skateboard shop) where the paint wears on the top?

They're ok as steps and I've had a lot of people get in/out without a problem. However, if you're not sure-footed, it can be dangerous b/c your foot can get stuck. I've seen some guys weld in a plate covering the gaps between the round bar and they reported it was a better step (something I will do one day when I have time).

Not a bad idea on the grip tape - that would definitely help and provide a better surface to step on!!! (i slipped on them the other day b/c they were icy)
 
In that case I don't know of any other option that would not require the same.

Me neither :) . If I stayed with the painted surface theme, i've seen some really durable spray-on sealant for rims...i was thinking of spraying a clear coat of this protector over the tradition rattle black I have on them now.
 
Hot dip galvanizing would cure any rust issues and is extremely durable. You can paint it with the proper prep if you want, or powder coating works very well on top of galvanized. Advantage of having it galvanized is if you do scratch off some paint or PC it won't start rusting on you.
 
It's been awhile since I've updated the build thread!!

Over the last two weeks I installed a reman AC Delco steering pump and a new Moog pitman arm...for some reason the Moog pitman arm I had on there was shot in about 20k miles; idler was ok.

Also, the big improvement was....

Installed a set of Realift Torsion Bar Relocators - very cool product!!

Very nice!

I don't understand why more IFS lift kit manufacturers don't supply some sort of product like this with their kits. I never saw the point of lifting the suspension while leaving the torsion bars exposed and hanging down so low.

I completely agree. For guys that lift so they can 4wheel their trucks more, that cross member is a disaster to deal with.
 
SAS all the way. For what I want to do (exploring mostly, but with more techincal trails thrown in) (and being able to get my axles crossed up in a gully fully loaded with a trailer) a solid axle with a selectable locker seems the only reasonable way to go. Simpler, tougher, stronger, and more options as far as lockers are concerned top the list of pros. Ride quality might suffer some, though I'm not sure, the front end hates the ditches here, and the rear end barely notices them, and the ifs is way too soft for my liking on the highway.

And I thought you would be one the guys to stick with IFS!! Swapping does make life a lot easier to four wheeling and I still consider it as an option on this Tahoe...even though I pumped a lot of hours and $$ into the IFS.

What shocks are you running that your IFS is too soft?
