First off I have an iPad Air Wi-Fi only, so there is not GPS in it, so it only works with maps when at home connected to my network.
I know I can buy this for it:
Dual Electronics XGPS150A Universal Bluetooth GPS Receiver for Portable Devices
It would allow my iPad Air to work when away from home, but I also have a Bluetooth keyboard hooked up to the unit, and I do not want to have to pull it off the iPad as it is also a case that folds over it.
And I hear most Android tablets come with a GPS chip set installed in them, so you are not screwed over like you are if you buy an Apple product that has Wi-Fi only.
What is a good tablet to mount in an FJ Cruiser?
I suppose I would have to get some type of mount for it, would have to research that later, as I already have a mount on my dash for my Yaesu ham faceplate.
My Pioneer stereo has GPS and navigation in it, and it actually shows the forest service roads when I go off road.
But, there is no easy way to do waypoints and name areas that I explore for future campsites, so this is why I am looking into a good tablet setup too verses getting a handheld GPS like a Garmin or other make.
I guess I could use Back Country Navigator or Hema on the Android tablet.
Thanks...
