Accepted to Paramedic school in Az

I been on this site for almost a year and never knew this forum existed. Im mainly on the LC and Mits forums vacillating between selling my 3FE 80 and getting another Montero.

After 14 years in Law Enforcement I'm finally able to relalize the second half or my career dream of being a Medic. I wanted to do SAR as a Deputy since I was a lifegaurd at 18. Maybe before that. I grew up in LA County. Anyone remember teh TV show 2Robert41? It was a spin off of CHiPs. Sort of an early version of Baywatch. It was a LA County two main SAR unit based in Malibu. Dont think the show lasted long but it was cool!!

Anyway. Its hard to work SAR when you a full time Deputy. You can't volunteer for your employer. And the cordinator spots are hard to get. I worked for LA, Sonoma and Ventura Counties. After a divorce and remarriage I ended up in AZ. I took my first PD job and thought my SAR dreams where over. When I got out here two years ago my brother in law had just graduated from am new paramedic program that was semi part time. Three days a week over ten months, instead of the full time for six months.

I fiigured I could do that while working my day/cop job. I went right to work. Recerted my EMT-B, got off probation, got out of patrol and found a more school friendly position, and took Cardio and Pharm. I also passed up last years class so I could bank more vacation and comp hours in order to take time off for school. Two weeks ago I got accepted and start next month. I'M STOKED!!!

END GOAL: AZ DPS AIR RESCUE!!!!!!! Any AZ SAR guys or gals here? Hilltoppr and Lance come to mind. Anyone else?

Congratulations on taking another step towards a dream. I graduated Medic school around 1990, worked my way up through the EMS world and accomplished about everything in that field that I could think of. I worked as a Tactical medic with a couple municipalities after starting a large EMS system and enjoyed working with the different swat teams. I think I would have enjoyed a law enforcement career. Always drive forward and better yourself. If I remember right AZ has one of the strongest EMS systems in the US.

They are pretty squared away here. They are doing some new stuff with CPR focussing more on compressions and survial rate is way up. I am still a few years away from the end goal, buit this is a huge step forward.

Congratulations. I graduated PM school at Daniel Freeman Hosp. Paramedic School in 1987. Hired by LA City Fire Dept. in 1988. It's been a long wild ride. Have fun with it.

Kellymoe I used to work for McCormick Ambulance in the early 90's. Before becoming a LA Sheriff. Worked the Inglewood station accross from the Forum . I would see all the those poor stressed out medic DF students on the breaks by the ER entrance. That memory still freaks me out about going to medic school. Didn't they pride themselves in washing students out?

I was one of those stressed out students. You had tests every day, if you received a score below 80% on two tests you were out, no questions asked, talk about stress. I then got hired by LA City Fire and was thrown into the frying pan working at fire station 46 on Hoover and Vernon in South Central.

Good luck.

granted there are more than one helo in the DPS inventory, but correct me if im wrong. I know that in order to work as a medic on Ranger41, a Phoenix Fire Department paramedic is permantly assigned out of sta 41 on 25 and morningside dr.

Dps has four Phnx, Flag, Tucson and Kingman. The all are piloted by DPS pilots. All four have also have DPS medics who fly up front as the Observer/Crew Chief. The Phnx unit uses a second Phnx Fire Medic in the back. I think it was part of the arrangement they made with the city as part of allowing DPS to use thier station as a base.

Flag only flies one DPS medic to save wieght. Kingman uses a contract flight nurse in the back. Tucson also only flies with just a DPS medic. Not sure why.
