Adventure Trailers New Window for the Habitat is Excellent

We just got a new window installed in our AT Overland Habitat and we love it! The European designed window that AT is offering for the Habitat are double pane acrylic with a light tint — great views. Both a thermal privacy screen and a bug screen are built into the window frame and work separately or together. The window has an elegant look and design that uses a multi-stop window opening support vs the standard shock window support that only allow fully open or closed. These can be opened just a 1/2” and locked or they can be opened at 3 other levels. The window hinges do not open all the way, but you can still reach in through them. Plus one of the many very nice attributes to the design is that they do not allow the rain to run into the shell when the window is opened. It is a major problem when you open the typical hatch window on a camper shell in a heavy rain, because all the water runs straight into the shell. These windows do not have that problem. They will keep you dry in all weather and enable wonderful viewing; a picture window to enjoy nature when the weather is windy or wet outside your shell.

Interesting - those windows look exactly like the ones that were on our T@B trailer. Even had the same kind of window screen/shade.

I got to be a test case for happiness. Please talk to the folks at Adventure Trailers for further details on pricing and availability.
We were the 1st test case, so check for price with Adventure Trailers. I can say, it is definitely worth it. The window makes being inside a pleasure when outside is windy or rain. A great view always improves the setting.

yes that does look top notch. how UV stable are those types of windows? anyone had that style in some other camper that's been outside for a couple years?

The answer depends on what acrylic you are considering. The acrylic panes used in our windows are made of Lucite Perspex, which is a top quality material. It meets the strict European ECE standards for UV degradation in motor vehicles. Lucite gives a 10 year warranty against any measurable changes in tensile strength, or elastic modulus due to UV exposure. Clear Perspex, when new has a Visual Light Transmission of 92%, which is higher than most glass. Typical safety glass has a VLT of 86%. Lucite guarantees a minimum VLT of 85% after 10 years of UV exposure. So the bottom line is that quality acrylic will last a long long time! We do supply the windows for AT, so rest assured you have a quality product.

All bets are off with cheap acrylic. The low end stuff meets no real standards. When you buy acrylic windows you need to know where they source the material and ask for the data sheet.

One common defect that you see on acrylic that is often blamed on the material, is actually something else. Fine crazing and discoloration is caused by the use of ammonia based glass cleaners. Glass cleaners should not be used for acrylic! A weak solution of dish washing liquid or car washing liquid works fine for general cleaning, and there are dedicated products that work well too. Novus makes excellent acrylic cleaners and polishes.

Are these actually Dometic windows? Or are there multiple manufacturers offering near-identical clones?

They are not Dometic, nor are they a clone. They are simply the same style. Dometic has plastic frames. Ours are aluminum. Dometic has plastic screen and blind housings. Ours are all aluminum. Ours have better quality blind and screen material, better roller assemblies, finer mesh in the screen, and better sealing at the edge of the screen. Parts do not interchange, and the suite of sizes is all different. Probably the biggest difference is that you can get ours, as well as any parts you may need in the future.

Thanks, after doing some research it did look like there are a lot of unhappy Dometic window owners. It does sound like you have a good product!

Thank you. We will be at Overland Expo West, so stop by if you attend. There will be several builders with our products there as well. Nothing beats seeing for yourself.
