After Market Seat Warmers

I run open air in my Jeep a good amount of the time. A seat warmer should would be nice. Has anyone installed one of the aftermarket ones and if so which one? Like it? Hate it? Would you do it again?

I assume you are considering "electric" seat heaters. If so, yes I installed a pair in both front seats. It was made/marketed by Check Corporation (http://www.checkcorp.com/seat-heater/seat-heater.asp) - the model I used included pads for both the bottom cushion and seat back and was very easy to install. I like it because my wife gets colder quicker and can turn her seat heater on rather than turn up the vehicle heater (which, since it's a Land Rover, barely works anyway). I'd definately do it again and every winter I am reminded of that fact.

You might also consider something like a Mojave Heater (http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/mojave-heater.html) - I've never used one, but I've heard they work pretty well.

Not familiar with the brand mentioned above but u may want to check that they are water proof. Even if you only use them in the summer occasional splashes or drink spills could be a bad thing.

That's an excellent point - particularly for a soft top owner. We routinely get in and out with wet waders while fishing without troubles - then again, I have seat covers so that might help a bit. I'll have my widow let you know if there's a problem

I thought it would be a great idea for the night ride back to town after a day wheelin' with no doors.
I was at the Jeep dealer after I bought our 2004 LJ and they were installing alot of aftermarket seat heaters and were running a special. I talked to a couple of mechanics while I was there and they had seen a some fires due to the seat heaters they installed. Not only did the mechanics not recommend them, one mechanic said it is the leading cause of car fires, OEM or not. I remember a recall I think about the same subject a few years ago....

I bought a 12V blanket for the wife to put over her legs.................I am not sure how well it works of course, as I have not put it over my legs.......:ylsmoke:

Sorry, but that doesn't make any sense. The dealer is installing aftermarket seat heaters and the mechanic says they cause fires? You gotta ask yourself if you really believe the mechanic. While it might happen in very rare cases, I don't see it as a serious risk if it is installed properly.

The sign was still up at the service desk, the dealership was in the process of no longer installing them. The mechanics were just giving me a heads up on the unfolding situation. I wanted to install the heaters myself and I knew they were doing alot of them, so I went to talk to the guys who do it. They said it was not a problem with the install, the product had a defect. I do not know the brand but it was not OEM.........
