Ok, so you have inspired/challenged/shamed me into doing better. I've modified the switches so that the diode and resistor in the harness are not required, changed the backlight LED colour to match the stock switches, and dimmed the activation LED (left it blue because I like the differentiation.) The light bleed turned out to be due largely to the rear of the pushbutton being all white, causing light to reflect off it around the edges. I dealt with that with a black felt pen (dimming the LEDs also helped.)
The switch mod involves replacing a LED and one or two resistors. It takes about 5-10 minutes per switch once you have the hang of it. I've done a video of the process and will link it here once I've edited it.
Now it looks really stock!
