Air Top Roof Top Tent

I'll be renting an Air top roof top tent from Off the grid rentals in November. My plan is to just make two "towers" for it to mount to. Those will be bolted via riv-nuts to the top of my trailer. Trailer box is 48" wide, so thats as wide as the towers will be, they'll have a cross member spanning the width. Planning on just sticking with steel, 1.5" square tube as the frame and some 1/4" flat stock to bolt them down.

Any advice? should i try to go with some 80/20 extruded aluminum for crossbars instead? Should i make an entire raised rack instead? Sierra Expeditions said square tube is fine, i'm guessing it'll use some sort of U bolt style clamp to bolt the tent down?

Funny, that's right where I am at with my build. I went with the 1.5x1.5 ⅛ wall cold rolled: https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/a-little-different-m416-trailer-build.165937/page-7
I am going to go with gas struts from: www.liftsupportdepot.com
I purchased struts from them in the past for the lid to my trailer and they work great.
To retract the rack I am going to use a hand winch. I have looked at a lot of the electric, hydraulic and air lifts out there and it is just one more thing to go wrong, I'm keeping this part simple.
Good luck and have fun....

Looks sweet. I'm not sure if i wanna do it how you did, which is ideal, or just bolt the rack to the top of the trailer so i can take it off easily if i end up never getting a RTT.

progress so far...
4 plates of 1/4" bolted to the trailer box frame (2x2 3/16th) using 2 1/4" riv-nuts and one 5/16th bolt all the way through. I don't trust those rivnuts completely lol. Used some 1.5" 1/8 square tubing to make the mounts for the tent to sit on. I swapped one of the bolts out for the 5/16th after the pics.
