Very cool, I love that set up. I figured it was a matter of time before they got you!

Carlyle,

@Outbackamper turned me on to your thread from over here, where I'm trying to figure out how big a rig to get for an XPCamper.

After spending a few hours reading your thread, I'm seriously considering something bigger than an F350... like your Dodge 5500.

I was wondering, with those mpt81s on your rig, what kind of MPGs do you get? And do you know what you got before you put them on?

Your build looks fantastic, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the kudos! Mileage is about 12 mpg now, not broken in yet and so it should improve a bit later. I never had the factory tires on for long or with and camper so have no comparison, but I'm sure it's worse now.

Hi Carlyle,
Nice article in Truck Camper Magazine. They got some really nice pictures of the inside. They should have given more credit to your first build, article made it sound like you had a stock Alaskan in the first place. Where did you run across those guys? Happy Camping.

The article is just fine. TCM is just trying to keep advertising more so that their sponsors are happy. I did review the article before it went out and kind of missed the making of the original seem so stock. It wasn't and I was quite happy with it. Also the article makes it see like I just ordered up the camper, though I spent hundreds of hours of research and days at the welder and fab guy. Oh, and about an extra 70k plus after insurance....

Not TCM's fault, mine as I let it by.

Here's a picture of the over the bed escape hatch covered in snow and ice. Amazingly the solar panels were still keeping the batteries fully charged with the plat Cat and lights running.

I'm kind of a geek for this but could you take a pic of it in twilight with the lights on? Sounds silly but I love the way vehicles look in those conditions, and I think yours would rock.

This week working, with carpentry help on additional shelves and two part epoxy layering on the table top. Pictures to follow.

Thoughts on a cart to roll in and out of the front lower storage compartment that will store a Weber Q100 barbecue when in storage and then double as a stand with fold out extension and using the bottom as a chuck box when sitting. Should be wheeled and thinking of telescopic aluminum legs when on the the ground to bring the height up for cooking. Any thoughts? Sources for those legs?

Thanks,

Carl

I was curious, does the length of your vehicle cause any problems while driving? I am building a long extension on the rear of my truck that will have a tag axle and wondered if you had any issues being so long.

The truck drives and acts great and is well mannered on dirt and pavement. This is not to say it wouldn't benefit from a set of Bilsteins soon. Just like any long vehicle, keep an eye on for fat butt taking tight corners as it does swing a bit.
