I was thinking about something like that but not so ya have to lift it so high...ill try to explain ......a piece of channel iron for the ramp or whatever a hinge and pin set up at one end so the ramp cas slide out as well as down. and on the other end a folding boat trailer wheel jack set up. flip the jack down onto the wheel lower it push the bike on crank it up roll it back and secure ... still havent perfected it yet but thats the basic idea..Den

The high point of the crane is about 12'. That is high, but not really a problem I think.
Thought about a ramp, but it might be difficult to drag a 300lb tire up/down an incline. Also, the platform height is about 6'. At a 1/3 rise that's an 18' ramp. I could haul an ATV up a ramp with a manual winch. But I might want to carry items that aren't as easily draggable, like firewood.
A crane isn't dependent on the ground conditions around the truck. But if I didn't already have the hydraulics I would have thought about alternatives.
Anyway, the crane is built.
I do have a chain hoist to use with the crane. I might upgrade that to an electric hoist if I want to go fancy.
I would like to find more uses for hydraulics. Maybe leveling cylinders while camped.
