Albright Solenoid wiring ?

I want to use in-cab controls in addition to the external remote plug to run my winch.
I want to utilize two stock switches, a Volume Up and a Volume Down for my radio. These are momentary and only function when pushed and held down.


Here is the wiring at the switch, its fairly small. Is it too small?


I'd like to splice into the existing pigtail and run it to the winch solenoid.
I'm wondering if I'll be ok doing that, or if I should stick a solenoid in there for safe measure???

Those wires will be fine, as long as you use them for triggering a relay that does the real work.

Well I guess that's my question.....Can I just splice into those wires and run straight to the solenoid? Or do I need to throw a relay in between the switch and the solenoid? I'm wondering how much juice actually needed to activate the Albright?

Yes; that is the purpose of a solenoid (actually a contactor in this case), to switch large amounts of current with a tiny trigger input.

No.

12 volts, miniscule current - it's just a switch to trigger the Albright contactor.
