allpro rear leafs vs. OME DAKAR

Have no personal experience with the Expo rears from AP, but i have run the Long Travel Crawler springs for years and love them, they carry a load well (week of camping gear while on trails) and flex/ride great, durable.
I've run other springs- Downey, superlift, National Spring customs- the AP springs are my favorite all-round performer and shine flexing.
Ive heard lons of people love the OME setups, and the same about sag.
Airbags inflated when you have a load? that might solve your issues.

You should prolly state how much load you plan on carrying and what type of off-roading/on-roading you are planning.
Do you want bolt-on or planning on extended length springs that will give better ride? What shocks will you run?
this would help anyone give you personal opinions on what we think will work for your application. Or do you just want to know what company people like?

Ultimately, you will get a set of springs and tweak them till they do what you want. And they all will work, then fatigue, and get replaced. If your wheeling alot, the couple hundred for springs will come up every 3-5 years anyway, so dont get to tied up in the nuances.

thanks for the good response I guess it would have helped to have a little more info. I have a 04 double cab with canopy. Mostly hauling camping gear and the occasional military trailer. I have the truck all stock, and was pretty much starting to get this truck built for minor trails and mostly camping. So far thinking coilovers up front and either one of these for the rear. I already have a rig dedicated to wheeling.

I would say if you are going to carry a lot of weight I would add the Dakar extra leaf before install. On my Cherokee they could not handle the weight very well and I ending up putting in the extra leaf. I think you would not be disappointed with the way they ride or perform. With all that said I do have a set of the All pro expedition leafs sitting in my garage waiting to be put on my truck, I keep on thinking the suspension fairy will come and put them on.

IDK, but if you get the dakars, make sure you get the AAL with it. You gain abot 20% load capacity.

Standard issue of any spring. If you have a vehicle that is unloaded part of the time and loaded part of the time- yo will always have a "ride" sacrifice on one side or the other. You choose.
Id think with a canopy and basic camp gear (not a generator, pop-top, and a winch bumper/tire carrier) you would be fine with the standard springs- not ones designed to carry 500#+. If you dont like them and the ride, slip in an add-a-leaf or timben bumpstop or airbags to handle the extra load.
Personally, i like AP- they are thin leaf with thicker packs for a nice supple ride. But im sure the OMEs are quite capable. Deaver will build to your specs- you pay a bit more, but get the ride a little more custom.

Both are manufactured overseas, both from quality spring manufacturers - one has been around much longer than the other, but both companies have a good reputation for thier leaf springs. You should be able to run either with no problems. If you decide on the OME I can help you with those, if you decide to go with the AP then talk to Pepe when you call them, he will be the most helpful person there to get you setup with what you need. I wouldnt hesitate to run either on my personal truck if I was building a Tacoma. When at AP we tried using Deavers when considering them for a spring builder but the set they sent us sagged nearly an inch in the first couple hours sitting in the parking lot, more the next day... they sold quickly on one of the forums.

Any updates on how the all pro expedition springs are working out? I know a lot of people are using them. They are on back order until 31MAR11.

they are still making them...

I just ordered a set in late January, and promptly traded them to my brother who does need a boatload of lift with THAT much load capacity. I have the OME Dakars witht he extra leaf and it is perfect for me, xcab with a cap on the back and it takes more than my trip loadout to even out my truck with 881s in the front. Truck is a Cadillac on the road and off. I will say that even though the truck was way too lifted in the back for me, the APEX's still rode great!
