Almost Didn’t Make It Back….

Holy Cow! Glad everyone was OK. Roll overs are definitely a scare for me.... Having also been in a high speed roll over.:Wow1: Seat belts saved at least me and one other passenger from going out the back window of the pickup we were broad-sided in.

Very glad all are okay! Beautiful pix and the Chaco images are inspiring as I plan on visiting this summer!

That is the trip I want to make with my family...one of these days. Thanks for sharing and I am glad everything worked out ok.

X2...that looked like an awesome trip. If this was a hollywood movie you would have gotten me with the ending. I didn't see that roll over coming. Glory to God for everyone making it through that wreck safe. I will look for more of your adventures in the future. Cheers.

Excellent write up and photos! Glad you made it out alive and physically unscathed. A few years ago I was driving my '98.5 CTD south on I-15. With no warning my right front Bridgestone AT blewout. Fighting the wheel I almost went over the edge close to the Penesquitos turnoff. The dropoff would have catastrophic. Somehow,I came to a halt on the shoulder. My tire had experienced total tread separation. Damage to the truck was $3300 in seconds.

I was running D rated tires and was grateful for AAA repairing my vehicle with underrated shoes. E-rated tires from then on. The Man Upstairs was looking out for your beautiful family that day. Those Landruisers of that era are beasts.

Good to see you've bought Landruisers again even w/ $4.00 coming up.

Oh man, my heart was broken to see this thread. After a long absence from ExPo I just decided this morning I had the courage to look up the Cruiser I sold Adam. Was expecting to have a lump in my throat from seeing adventure pics, not what ended this thread. I am SO thankful a bad accident was not a tragedy.

RIP dear Cruiser - Thanks for sacrificing yourself for Adams family...

I thought that 80 looked familiar! Had seen that a few times in my rear view in Evergreen. I will add to the glad everyone walked away ok column on this one and definately gives me peace of mind driving my 80. I have seen other phi tis of rolled 80's and it is impressive how well the passenger compartment and pillars hold up in those scenarios. Thanks for sharing.

Ahhh, how have I only seen this thread NOW? I heard about this, but not the pictures and the wonderful trip that preceded this. I am so glad y'all're OK.

will be a cargo barrier, and I would recommend one for everyone else that hauls gear..

For those of us hauling gear AND children, I can only imagine the carnage inside, but if you have some time and inclination, would like to hear about what you had strapped (and not) and what problems (if any) were with the gear floating about?

This is one of the reasons I put cargo tiedowns in the back of my Ex. Everything gets a ratchetstrap or several bungees on light stuff. One of these days I will put in a steel cargo barrier.

Glad no one was hurt by debris. That is one of my biggest worries when I am carrying everything under the sun.

Thank you everyone for all the well wishes and comments. This is a great community.

It was truly a miracle that it wasn't worse inside the cabin. We were on a two week trip, so we had gear packed full in the rear cargo area. Stove, firepit, water cans, table, chairs, bags, coolers, etc. We didn't have a cargo barrier, but somehow 98% of the gear stayed in place. Maybe it was packed so tight it didn't have anywhere to go, but I truly have to say it was a miracle since it wasn't flying all over the place. A slight scratch on my daughter, and a small cut on my wife. We ended up going to the hospital with my son with a possible concussion, but he checked out fine. I will be putting a cargo barrier in before we set back out on any more expeditions.
