Here's a great tech write up on how to install a good dual battery set up in a 4Runner. It should be similar for you. I would suggest two minor changes to this write up. First, install a larger second battery if you have room and second, as you have already planned, run your accessories off the secondary battery. The specific isolator used here is designed to protect your primary starting battery while managing the charging of the dual batteries. I installed this set up in my 4Runner and have had no problems. I like having a switch on my dash to manualy jump start myself if my primary battery is having problems.

Just look at the first phase of this write up since the second phase gets into the details of running power to a rear power distribution system. That's a little more than you asked for. :)

Here's another link to an in depth discussion on dual battery options:

Hope this helps.

All wired up and ready to go. Isolator, 2 batteries, and my custom dual battery voltmeter. Also threw in a few more pictures of my custom cb wip bracket and my sound system. Enjoy :D

I don't recall exactly what a rebuilt taco alt. can put out. Give em a call and let us know :sunflower

And I believe there are two different alternators for the 3.4L, I think a 60 amp and a 75amp. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong...

Here we go:

Called Boyle Tech today...Great help over the phone...My 01' DC tacoma has a 80 amp alternator i was told...The guy told me with the rewound with all new brushs, bearings and the complete works around $ 150 plus shipping there and back...Hes in Cal.....Shipping can't be to bad....Come with an 1 year warranty.

With the rewound...between 140 - 150 amps is the range with a 80 amp idle ....Not to bad for $150!!! I'm going to do alittle more research on this...but i think i'm sold on the Boyle Tech deal!

:D
