Considering buying a high mileage '99 Montero - 1 owner, all maintenance records, 210k miles... I can probably pick it up for ~$3500.

Are you crazy? It's likely that you're not. You already know that a high-mileage Monty is likely to need a certain amount of renewal. On the other hand, fastidious ownership could result in a vehicle that has been maintained in a state of ongoing renewal.

$3500 would be too much for that mileage where I live, but prices vary widely by region.
