Ambulance Conversion - New Modifications.

I CA the vehicle code is very clear about the lights no red, blue or white (clear).

Amber is ok if you have legitimate exemption. My work truck has multiple Amber LEDs on it with clear lenses and have never had an issue.

Never heard of a section about you cant look like an emergency vehicle.

Now to confuse people emergency vehicles and now red, yellow, green and white.

The red ones are the easiest to recognize and the white ones disappear.

Where it gets murkier is some officer's definition of light includes a lens... Functional or not. The ambulance service sells them after the wires are cut in two places... And then an officer comes along and tickets the driver because the plastic lens is still attached to the vehicle clear, painted white, Amber... Doesn't matter. I figure if the government decomissions them in a certain way and says they're street legal... One of its agents can't then Come along and ticket you for $3500 for driving what you bought from them... As you bought it.

However officers do, and the judges side with the officers... And unless you've got deep pockets, you're screwed.

That's why I paid the fine and I hope they will choke on my money . . .

Right now the officers look at you as some crazy person driving an ambulance.

Option one is to remove all of the lights, install plates to cover the holes and repaint the vehicle some other color.

Option two is to come up with a legitimate use for the vehicle that requires it to stay looking like an ambulance

Wow, there's a lot going on here recently. As far as lenses go, look at the exact violation and citation. The cop may try to tell you something, but he must cite a specific code violation on the ticket. This should be extremely easy to fight. Him giving you a ticket for a black lense on a decomissioned ambulance is like him giving you a ticket for driving a crown vic, or a Taurs, Explorer, Malibu, (fill in the blank) with tinted windows.

Second, if you don't have the budget to spend on a full body spray or wrap, just paint out the stripe to a nuetral color. I went with purple because Go Huskies!!!

I got a ticket before I swapped my forward facing lights out.
I just paid it. Not worth worth battling. I turned them all to clear. Much more useful that way.

Here in BC when they decommission ambulance they just remove the light bars and paint all lenses white. I can see why but it's a pain cause they also paint over reverse light... Some earlier one got away with it (my first one still had its siren) but no more.

The siren can be a little startling when you discover it is working when cruising down the road... After you've tested it and couldn't make it work regardless of what you did. Turns out that ground for the house batteries was important... ;)
