Ammo cans

i noticed some here have ammo cans in their bed. I tried that and anything that had metal was getting rusted. what do you guys keep in yours.

Here's a picture of my ammo can storage in the bed. Two .50 caliber cans contain:
-a big tow strap
-a small tow strap/tree strap
-3 or 4 shackles
-a snatch block
-a coupla ratchet straps



Just installed these about six weeks ago. No rust yet.

Do you live in a wet climate?

no i live in So Cal but the one time it was real foggy out moisture got into the can and everything developed some rust, just a pain ya know.

Check the rubber seal around the inside edge of the lid. I don't know of anyway to replace them if theyre jacked up but I'm sure you could think of something! And if you've got them held down with screws, use some RTV around where they go through the can to keep moisture out too.

Here's what I have in one of my ammo boxes. I mounted my compressor and inverter inside. I've wired up some switches on the side plus a cannon plug to supply the power.

Approximately 11" x 7" x 5.5". That's a regular .50 caliber can. There's also a wider one, commonly called a "fat 50."

i like using the 50 cal ammo cans for basic recovery kit and pers items, and i like using 25mm ammo cans for holding windsheild washer fluid, coolant, oil, and oil filters, as well as some tooling and parts.

I really like that setup. I might copy that!
