While I am on the subject I really am not a fan of the safety thimble, they don't let you run a sling hook because they are a closed loop design.

You guys deal with the new machine covered dux? I work in the bering sea pollock fleet and seems like that is what you would want on a winch. We have 130 ft of 1" on our 50 ton gilson (winch) and havent broke it for 6 or 7 years now. Hauls 150 ton bags of fish daily. Pretty incredible stuff.

1. What's the difference between Amsteel Blue and the other Masterpull winch line products?
2. I like the safety hook, but want to be able to remove it at times. Can the self closing safety hook be used the connector? What is the rating of the connector, and the different hooks?

The Master-Pull ropes simply differ in the manufacturer and how they are actually produced. Amsteel Blue is a brand from Samson and is much less expensive, but I prefer our ropes because of the handling and strength characteristics.

We can use a connector link to put the hook on the rope, and it can be used multiple times over and over before it will stop working. These are yellow now, and I believe the breaking strength on them is 28,000 lbs, but I will check tomorrow:

I'd like to know too. I've got a deuce and a half and a trailer that weigh well over 20,000lbs together. Planning on installing one of the stock PTO winches, and the steel cable (200-250ft) weighs more than the winch itself.
