Time for a different chapter...
Since Matt has settled in with LX now, and he's spending more quality time with his recently-purchased '78 FJ40, I figured I'd drag our other friend Jeff into this thread as well. In hindsight the thread title kind of lends itself to multiple vehicles, so lucky me.
:safari-rig:
Back in the 90's Jeff and his wife owned a
Medium Red Pearl 80-Series ('93 or '94 I think). It was her daily driver for years, pretty much unmodified. Jeff put a TJM basic bumper (no bulbar) on the front after she 'made contact' with a car in front of her. It was a good truck and he eventually sold it to a friend. Now a decade-plus down the road he was jonesing for another Land Cruiser. The only thing holding him back was that Matt had his own '93 at the time... I know, I know. That's such silly thinking because the world would be a better place if everyone owned an 80-Series Land Cruiser, right?
:ylsmoke:
Well after Matt's truck got written off by a distracted Lincoln Aviator driver coming down his street Jeff's interest suddenly renewed. He found a well-used '93 in Austin that the owner and family had camped in extensively with an RTT. The truck was lifted on 285s with an ARB up front, has a snorkel, but the RTT had already been sold off separately. Since the purchase he and Matt installed a Slee rear bumper on it. I only have a couple pictures of this truck...
:truck:
So anyway, what prompted me to post this is that for some reason Jeff got an itch to mount mil-surplus run flats on his 80. He's already bought a set of five 37x12.50s on the breakdown rims and the GM-to-Toyota adapter/spacer units to run them. Those things must weigh a metric ton apiece, and the tire/wheel combo ain't light either, lol. His brakes already need some attention as it is and I think he's kind of insane to run these on a bone-stock, high-mileage drivetrain. It's gonna be like driving uphill forever, am I right? He has already said that if he doesn't like the setup he'll just chalk it up to a learning experience and sell off the parts. Thoughts or opinions?
The peanut gallery is open for commentary... :lurk:
