Another LR in the works!

Noticed an odd thing last night. When I turn on the left signal indicator the trailer light flashes briefly.

I was actually kind of surprised it lit up-neat little icon.

I got the radio code and plugged it into the radio and the damn thing worked:sombrero: I think I've got some resistance coming from another source as the radio has a phasing effect that is pretty darm cool if your listening to classic psychodelic rock but a little annoying with anything else. I didn't have a chance to try out the CD changer yet. I took it to my indy mechanic to look at the ignition-I am having to hold down the accel and it is struggling to start. Once running it is OK-just hard starting. I want to use it this weekend and I don't have the repair guides yet so I thought I'd let him have a go and also look it over-fresh pair of eyes to spot anything I missed.

Here are some more pics-consider these the "before" pictures.

It's probably a good idea to just go ahead and refresh all the ignition stuff and do a thorough tune-up. new coil, ignition amplifier, cap 'n rotor, plugs, and good plug wires. stick with stock parts and avoid the temptation of using a hotter coil - the ecu hates it.

congrats on the new rig - now you're a coiler guy, too!

cheers

The engine is pretty fresh-45K 3.9 out of a D90 so those bits are pretty good but I'll be sure to check them out. I talked with the shop and he found the fuel filter to be almost clogged which is an easy fix-almost too easy.

He is going to check it in the morning and see if that sorted it. I also asked if he saw anything when he had it on the lift-nope.

I would think the fuel filter would have been replaced with the engine swap but I guess it's one of those things you can easily forget. He felt it was the original. It feels indulgent taking it to a shop.

ahh - gotcha. If the fuel filter is clogged, it's nearly a certainty that the fuel pump is in decline. They end up working too hard against the clogged filter and it sends them downhill. sumptin to consider replacing sooner than later!

Yeah-I was thinking it was the problem. I like that a GM unit can be used in place of the LR unit and that it would be outside the tank-easier to replace if needed in the future. The factory unit stays in to retain the sender unit.

Speaking of, anyone have the part number of the GM fuel pump that can be substituted? I'm guessing it's a Delco and I read it was used on a GM truck but not which one.

Well I got her home in one piece-compared to my IIa she's down right cushy.

Disco's are pretty comfy for 4x4's, but damn, I envy you your IIA. That was the first Rover I fell in love with at 10 yrs old, now almost 30 yrs ago . . . LOL. I had a friend whose Dad was a fishing guide up in Crested Butte, Colorado, and he swore by Land Cruisers. One day when he was bragging about how great Land Cruisers were, I showed him a picture of a Land Rover IIA 109 on safari in Africa (of course). I said, "What about this?" That was the first time I heard him speechless in his Land Cruiser sermon. He somewhat grudgingly admitted that that was the one vehicle to give a Cruiser a run for its money . . .
