Another New 4Runner (autumn metallic)

Here are my Stubbs welding HD-SKO sliders that I have done a bit of customizing to before I get them coated. The plate has been welded in totally flush on the top and bottom. I wanted to leave the center part open so I can winch off them etc. It added about 10lbs per slider, if not more, and makes them feel super solid. The rear portion will make for a great step to the roof rack. Hopefully the front will keep gravel and mud off the doors a bit.

Also, I have purchased BajaTaco's group 31 battery bracket. Does anyone know if the sears group 31M Marine battery is standard group 31 size? I would think so, but want to make sure.

Group sizing is a standard, so it should be. Here's the specs on the Platinum 31M (assuming that's what you're after--strongly suggest against the standard one, PM and I'll fill you in why):

width: 6 & 4/5" (6.8")
height: 9 & 1/2" (9.5")
length: 13"

All, looking for some advice here... Just ordered a pump, pressure switch, gauge, etc for an onboard air setup, but was wondering what people thought of a 1.5 gallon tank. It would make placement much easier for me then a 2.5 gallon unit.

Funny...a week after I posted my message above about how I'd never seen one in that color and then on Sunday I was right behind one!

Some small updates:

Purchased the following:

cooper st 265/75/16s
Viair 400c compressor (used via craigslist)
Blue sea fuse panel with negative bus
100amp circuit breaker
and some awesome LED rock lights:

These things are AMAZINGLY bright. Far brighter then my friends vision x system (I would say 2x brighter at least per pod). I have 4 currently about to go under the truck, with another 2 to 4 on the way (depending on what they look like). I would recommend anyone looking for LED rock lights to look at these. This is with my crappy camera in my dark laundry room on a 9volt battery.. It gets a lot brighter on a 12volt battery. For the cost of the vision x system, you can buy 6 of these...

I had a hard time looking for a location to mount a tank on my 3rd gen. I ended up going with a 0.5 gallon from Viair. It's mounted near the spare which is in it's factory location. I think I can fit another 0.5 tank under there but not much bigger anywhere. I didn't want the tank under the hood or in the vehicle so I felt this was one of my only options. I have a York compressor so it's no big deal. Fill up on 4 tires from about 13psi to 40psi takes less than 5 minutes. Where are you going to mount your compressor? Keep in mind they get hot and are loud when they've been pumping for a while.

That is an excellent question. Under hood space is very limited, and I have cruise control, so under hood, the only good place I see is move the cruise to the firewall, and them mount the compressor squeezed between the abs and the airbox. Otherwise, I may mount it in an ammo can so that I can throw it in the back of the truck and hook it up with some "jumper cables" Right now I am trying to figure out the fuse block and circuit breaker install so that it is clean and accessible.

You have a pic of where that 1/2 gallon tank is?

I'm a little late to the thread. Looks like a nice build! I have a question about the center diff lock, which 4runners did these come on and how do they activate it? Is this t-case swappable into a non c-diff lock runner?

I've seen several electric compressors mounted where the cruise is. I've got a 5 speed so I've got even less room than an auto 3rd gen. When I used an MV50 compressor I had it wired with a pressure switch and quick disconnects and kept it in an ammo can but space is limited for me on trips so I like the engine mounted york.

I've got a Blue Sea 8 space fuse box mounted on top of the air bag computer that is located behind the bezel where the cigarette lighter and 12v sockets are. I ran one 8 gage wire into the cab and to the fuse box. It's all clean and sealed and all my electrical components are wired from it.

I'll try to drum up some pics for you. They are a little older but you'll get the idea.

Here is the tank from the rear bumper. The little 0.5 gallon is expensive but it's the only thing that I could find that would work. I even explored the option of building a custom tank I could mount somewhere else. I think I can fit another 0.5 in the same location on the passenger side of the spare. The spare is small (I forget the size) but I could deflate it if necessary.

Looks like the blue sea is just the 6 space version. Either way it's full now.

I have a couple of air tanks, 2gal. I believe, from a Range Rover that had air suspension. It already has brackets to mount and is a pretty good size to fit underneath. I just have to do it.

Looking good.

And yes there are not to many places to mount a tank on our trucks. When I rebuild my rear bumper in a few months I am gonna have it do double duty as a tank.

From my understanding just limited 4runners until ~2000, then they all had it. Also, this just adds an "unlocked" mode to the case, the standard "locked" mode is basically the same as is present on all 4runners of this generation. it allows, for a lack of a better term, an "AWD mode" that can be driven on the pavement.

Thanks for the explanation!
