Great pictures, and I love the color of the base paint being used. Very CAT-like. Wish you were closer as I have a drop-in 40/45-series aux. tank for you :)

Too bad indeed.. But I think you will make somebody else happy with it.. Sharing is the most satisfying thing I can think off. :victory:

Perhaps, but I assure you, the empleada did not agree, and I had to make a trip to the black market.

Sooooooo, where are you getting your work done. Looks like it might be just below el Alto.

It is below El Alto. The area is called Christo Rey near Tembladerani. You must know the calle Jaime Freyre and Landaetta. It is situated in that area. So most parts shops and hardware stores on walking distance. Not that the public transport is expensive... But I like walking up and down the hills here. Even if it is at almost 4.000 meters. :Wow1:

And yes I can imagine the cholitas not being happy without their connection to the virtual life and lies on the tube.

Staying High!

I lived in La Paz for three years, so I know a little about being short of breath! And that insane feeling of coming back to La Paz and breathing a sigh of relief because it is so low and warm compared to other places in Bolivia. I NEVER take oxygen for granted!

Remember Alex Mechanica should you get into a bind. Looks like Esteban and crew are doing a fine job, but it is always worth having a backup!

(FWIW, we got a new TV and the empleada stayed with us for five years!)

All the best!

I am putting the u-bolts back on its place.

I bought some nylock nuts but they are wider and lower than the original nuts that go with the u-bolts. So more turning, and a little less space to get the socket on the nut.

Esteban clearly enjoying himself while sanding the sidepanel.

Simon is putting a layer of primer on the hood.

The guys are helping me in re placing the gearbox. I still need the dust cover on the clutch arm, I hope that one will arrive shortly on Toyota HQ downtown.

So this is how it looks so far. So far so good they say.

and some more:

Finally I got the courage to pry the cap off the gearbox breather. I was hoping for something that was screwed in the housing, so I could simply get a nipple with the same thread.

24037_383082993542_55756113542_3875486_6360930_n.jpg

But I was nicely surprised by a pressed in thing that I had not the courace for to get it out. And I did not want to thread that one in fear of getting metal pieces in the gearbox.

24037_383082998542_55756113542_3875487_1055310_n.jpg

So I fabricated something with a piece of hose. Clamping it to the gearbox housing like this.

24037_383083003542_55756113542_3875488_6291588_n.jpg

And then getting it with a tube to combine the three breathers.

This is how my homemade cushions look like. I hope I did well and the will last a bit?

Here again from a different angle.

At the car fair up in El Alto, I got myself some new gauges. One fuel gauge for the spare fueltank and two temperature gauges. One mechanical for the oil temperature that I will mesure at the carter plug and one 24v electrical one for the water temperature measured near the thermostat.

I am dismantling the camping windows and have great difficulties in getting the Sikaflexed rubbers off.

I see that the metal used is a form of sandwiched aluminum. Very light and strong enough for this purpose.

that may well be... All is going to look really swell. I think our list of potential buyers will only increase... But we are not selling.. Don't worry.

Selling that LC would be like selling your right arm, or your grandmother! :Wow1: It is worth far more to you both than it ever could be to anyone else.

Great pictures. I look forward to the progress that is coming.

okay... more:

Esteban again playing with fire. Smoke coming from every corner.

We gather more hands in order to get the tub on the frame. A little adjusting and it sits good. Still al little high because we need more weight for the leaf springs to get lower.

27098_383804298542_55756113542_3892680_4517552_n.jpg

ready to get started mounting stuff. The engine sill needs some cleaning and I want to look at the oily side, together with Caesar I will change some seals and get the valves checked out.

Looking good.

This is how the rubber cushions look like from underneath.

Here a close up from a cushion made from a truck tire.

27098_383804328542_55756113542_3892685_6676423_n.jpg

The back also needs some adjusting. I guess that the previous owner never installed any cushions here, and we made some holes, but they do not even out, so we have to drill some new holes for the cushions at the back.

27098_383804333542_55756113542_3892686_5857825_n.jpg

My new seat needs some adjusting as well, as the rails will not fit instantly on the original bars.

And yet another Cruiser, This one is pimped, but I like this one rather. All over covered in Stainless Steel alan bolts.

But still the thought of putting a wing on the top of your car seems a bit ridiculous to me. Why would you do that, it serves no purpose. Or am I wrong?

looking very good, i noticed that your front shackles are swung backward about 30 degrees. did you move the leaf spring back? or is that the original position? i am trying to get mine to swing forward 30 degrees to get a smoother ride.:Wow1:

Noticed that too but assume that will adjust when the engine gets back in due to load?

Let's see, a spoiler on a naturally aspirated Land Cruiser at 4k metres? Yup! REALLY useful!

But it looks soooooo cool! :wings:

This will be an issue Coen. Even if the springs do flatten out under load, make sure that the front shackles are pointed forward, otherwise when you bounce the shackle could rotate toward the rear, and then get locked up against the frame. THAT will then be a rough ride.

Is the front shackle mount bolted on? If so, consider moving it rearward a couple of inches. Better would be to do what is called a "shackle reversal", where you put the fixed end of the spring up front, and the pivoting shackle at the rear of the spring. That gives a much better ride, and better steering feel too. Do an internet search for that term and I am sure you will find some pictures.

Looking good otherwise! :smiley_drive:

Couple things. The wing atop may be to deflect air for down the back as 40s get a lot of updraft while driving and the rear gets really dirty and in wet/snowy weather very caked on

Next, there is a set of distinct reasons that Toyota put the shackles in the front on the LCs (vs what they did on the mini trucks). One of these reasons is that upon a corner roll it will indeed (though marginally) assist in steering. Others include that without a larger arc in the leafs the otherwise flat OEM leaf design allows for backwards movement of the axle upon any suspension movement. IOW shackle reversal only really helps if you've got a lift.
