Karin-Marijke did a successful test with the thinner and the emblems, so the rest is undergoing the same treatment.
See how she gets the magic working and puts the glamour back where it belongs.
I can paint the '4' and the 'diesel' in red. After that I paint the background of the big Toyota emblem black and Karin-Marijke conjures their shiny borders.
Just a little bit of thinner works like magic.

Simon is washing the car for the last time and Esteban is getting some protective paint on some spots.

I was surprised when I read they rarely used 4x4. From this, I assumed they must be running some very tall tires..."The bigger the tire, the smaller the hole" sort of thing....33" or taller with some very nice ground clearance?

My guess is that they rarely use 4x4 becasue they are 'overlanding' not 'four-wheeling'.

Indeed we run 7.50R16...
Washing and rinsing.
After that, packing the whole in newspapers and wiping it down with dry hands.
The new fuel intake on the rear. This was the only option where it wouldn't take to much space from the inside 'living' area. How it will look underneath, we still have to figure that out.
The hood looks super! 3 layers of paint and 3 layers varnish.
Karin-Marijke is getting the cargo floor into shape and is looking for a way to paint or vanish it. Maybe they even have a similar sort of wooden system that doesn't wear? The rear of the floor looks very good, but we can't flip it because of the non uniform layout.

Is there a source for large sheets of thick plastic panels you could replace the wood floor with? If not, maybe coat the wood with a truck bed liner type product?

you guys might be a bit spoiled when it comes to all those nice products you have out there. You would be amazed by the simplicity of products available here. For example. Brake-fluid Dot 5 or even Dot 5.1 doesn't exist around here! So we are improvising a lot. And with a smile I might add.

Did I tell you we were ready for paint and varnish?
They have real dust covers, but they get clogged easily and I think they are a bit expensive for the guys. They have to buy all their stuff, even soap to wash your hands. So a wet cloth works best says Esteban.

??? I'm not sure I follow your comment. The 7.50x16 is probably the most common 4x4 tire in the world. By a wide margin.
If you wonder that Coen et al rarely put their vehicle in 4WD, that is not surprising. Most of the roads in the world are better, and worse, than you expect. But even in the Third World, they tend to be pass/fail. If you can get through, then any tire and 2WD will work. If not, then nothing will work and you wait for the dry season. Really.

Bolivia is definetly on my return too list, I only spent about 4 days there arranging a mil flight down into the amazon basin a few years back, spent most of that time feeling altitude sickness and being spat on in public.......oh the joys of travel !
