Got my kayak fishing setup completed now. Full review of everything on my blog ExplorePA.wordpress.com. Been playing around with it today on the lake and plan on going out tomorrow again. Either kayaking for hiking, haven't decided. I've been fishing from the shore for about 4 years now and this just opens up a whole new territory. Having a fish finder defiantly helps get an idea where everything is and what lures to use. I had a fish that felt decent however I was using my grandfathers rod that has a fast action tip and wasn't strong enough to set the 2/0 hook.

Also had a mis-hap today that made me realize I need to be more prepared. When unloading the kayak there was a metal burr that stuck out from the rivet and cut about a 2in gash in my leg. This was right after unloading everything and about to set sail. The lake I was fishing isn't know for being the cleanest either. Unfortunately for me, I haven't been carrying my go bag with my medical kit in it, so I was up ****s creek...literally. I was able to clean the wound and continue my trip for a little (after looking at it, it was deeper than I thought and decided to head home to put some butterfly bandages on it). It just made me think that I need to be more prepared for a situation like this.

Ending on a good note, I got some goodies coming this week from 4wd.com and an adventure planned for the end of this month :)

Definitely digging the kayak setup! Beautiful lake to be out on, and in the middle of summer it sure looks quiet.
Look forward to seeing what goodies you're getting, and reading about your adventure. :coffee:

The lake is awesome, but dirty. It's one of the calmer lakes in the area and only allows electric trolling motors. The kayak is awesome, you can read all the accessories I did to it in my blog Explorepa.wordpress.com/fishing-kayak-setup.

Just finished installing the winch. Fits nicely in the bumper, install was super easy other then installing the Rubiskid. Although I am not a fan of the stock battery terminals on the Jeep. They seam to be really flimsy and not tight. May need to upgrade them. Next is to install the Northridge4x4 ARB compressor kit and a LED light bar above the winch.

Guess a rock got between the parking brake bracket and bent it up and today when I set the parking brake it was the breaking point. I was able to use the second hole to secure it for now, going to put it on the lift tomorrow to bend it back and weld it. Glad that it happened close to home and not out on the trail. There's been a lot of time where we are resting on the trail at idle and only using the parking brake. If this would have happened while on the trail it would have ended badly.

Also ordered Evo front and rear lower control arm skids. A quick look under the Jeep and I can see they take a beating, for $80 might as well skid/reinforce them now while they aren't too bent.

Ouch! Bummer on the bracket. Glad you can weld it back up.

Really like the minimalistic front bumper and how deep the winch sits inside. Did you get a cover for the winch?
I have a winch with synthetic rope on my other rig, and like to keep it covered in the winter to keep the rain water from freezing in the rope.

I'm going to try to bend it back and weld the ear tomorrow. If not, I can always use a washer. That probably be a better idea since there is nothing to catch on then weld a straight piece of steer across the top so it won't bend up. I love the front bumper. Its light and like you said, allows the winch to sit deep and have some protection. I like how the rubiskid makes it so that the bolts are harder to get too as well so it's almost theft proof. I do plan on getting a neoprene cover before the winter.

Looks good, and a great idea on the skids.
I've got some rock rash on all those points!

I've got those skids too, haven't put them on yet though. Look good on there!

I like the skids a lot more then I thought I did. It wasn't until I crawled under the Jeep and actually looked for damage that I saw the lower control arm brackets took a lot of beating. They are practically the same thickness as the parking brake bracket and that bent without me even knowing it. Northridge had that plus5 discount last weekend too so I got them all for $75, that's a deal IMO. At this point everything has a skid (working on gusseting the Evo exhaust/crossmember skid still) so other then the ARB air compressor kit Northridge has and maybe a light bar, a proper lift and bigger tires are next.

Picked up some water containers today. One of the issues I had last time we went out on a multi-day trip was the amount of space water bottles took up in the cooler and not having any water for cleaning dishes. They were $12 at Walmart and hold 6 gallons. They do feel a little flimsy but they should be fine for my intended purpose of just keeping them in the Jeep. May order the AEV pump for the bumpers and see if I can integrate it into one of the caps. That could be a winter project but for now just tipping them over will do.

Also took inventory of camping gear for this upcoming trip this weekend and over labor day. Only thing I really need is a grill. After planning the menu we should be OK without it and just do hot dogs, cheeseburgers, and corn. That reminds me, I need to pick up a cast iron pie maker.

Just seasoned the pie irons I got for my birthday last year this past weekend.
