Any rub issue with 255/85-16's

I noticed reading a few of the build threads that this was the common tire size. Are there any rub issues and if so what kind of trimming was necessary? Spacers or not needed using stock rims?

It's looking like I'll be going with a 2.5" coil lift in the front and ome dakars with the extra leaf in the rear.

I haven't purchased the tires yet, but I'll likely be doing so around first snow. My understanding from what I've read here and elsewhere is that a 1" - 1 1/2"body lift will be required for anything other than very light street use. May rub at full lock and will rub when stuffed. Body lift should mitigate these effects.

Wrong... Simply put.

For a 255/85-16 this is not required. This size fits just fine with a OME lift. Or any 2.5-3" lift.
Ive run my coil overs at different lift heights from 2.5-3" and have never had any rubbing issue requiring any further modification. ESP NOT a body lift.

I run both 33” (255/85R16) and 35” (315/75R16) tires on 2.5 coilovers (SAWs) and OME Dekars with extra leaf. A few things to consider:
1) Your proposed lift won’t change what rubs because when your vehicle compresses your suspension all the way down your tires will still rub if they are going to rub at all. The lift just adds height to the body of the vehicle – it doesn’t change what happens when the springs are compressed all the way down.
2) 255/85R16 tires will fit on stock wheels with minimal rubbing on the Stock UCA & if you upgrade coils & UCA, less often as mentioned above. You can check out http://ttora.com/wiki/index.php/Tire_and_Wheel_Fitment#2005.2B_Tacoma_Fitment for a review of lots of tire/wheel fitment combinations.
3) As far as trimming goes, with stock alloy wheels and 255/85R16 tires, no trimming is needed. But with wheels with larger offsets the sweep of the wheel will be wider and at some point you may need to do the body mount mod (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Psu2TH14TJk). Usually this is only needed when you go with wider tires than the ones under consideration as with my 35's.

On my 04 I had the Icons (and Total Chaos upper arms) at about 2.5" and did have some rubbing with stock alloys, I did have some rubbing on the frame at full lock. Also did the pinch weld mod and still had some rubbing, usually during hard compression and when crawling on rocks.

Here is my experience with that setup.

I put on the Icon 2.5 CO with TC uniball UCA. Rear setup is All-Pro Expo pack with 2.5 Resi Icons. I decided to go with the BFG KM2 255/85/16. I have been running the stock alloy wheels since I lifted it. The skinny tires and offset of the stock wheels makes it look odd. I had no problems with rub until I added a spacer to the wheels. I wanted a flush look with tires and fenders so I added a 1.25 inch spacer. The extra 1.25 made the truck look a a lot better and it made it more stable driving. However, the spacer made the tire rub on the black plastic under the front fender/bumper. No big deal really, I just cut the stuff off. No need for any body mount mod/cut. So far I've done a few good trails and haven't had rubbing issues. There is a lot more rolling weight though. Gas mileage and stopping will be affected.
