What size tent is that and what shell and rack do you have?

Hi, the tent is form CVT and the the model Mt. McKinley
The rack is custom made in my garage. I have two section, one section going under the shell making the support of the rack and the tent, then the rack who support the tent. The shell is floating between the interior reinforcement and the rack. The tent, rack and people in to the tent is way to much for the fiberglass camper itself.

This is a picture of the two pieces during construction time and a few pictures I have now.
I hope that answer your question.

FNG, what mods are you considering on your Tundra? I'm keeping mine low key with front level kit, snug top xtra vision shell/yakima rails and Warn variable mount winch. Looking into deep cycle batt system and adventure trailer also. What tires are you running and it looks leveled.

I did the Rough Country level kit, 3 in front 1.5 rear. I will switch it out to bilstein leveling struts if no issues arise due to leveling the truck. I installed TRD intake (Meh, noise maker) and Traction bar (My favorite mod so far, wow what a difference in handling) I also installed fender flairs to keep the mud and gravel of the body, I put wider wheels and a more aggressive Nitto Terra Grapplers tires, but kept the same diameter. I have a Leer top in the paint shop. I modified the fog lights and will be installing a front hitch so I can use a removable winch. batteries and a field shower will be on the trailer, which will be nothing more than a series of racks to hold Kayaks and bikes.

The plan is to make the truck into the camper and tow a trailer with Kayaks and Bikes. I'm actually collecting the parts to build the trailer right now. I don't want a "go anywhere" monstrosity I cant drive comfortably across the states, been there done that. My goal is to do a trip to Alaska AUG 2014 and a trip to Panama around FEB 2015. I want to go Kayak and ride my Bikes in different places. the Tundra is a base camp. I don't like racks, cool bumpers and stuff hanging of the vehicle, the MPG suffers. My goal is to keep it looking as stock as possible outside, and simple, tastefully functional spartan in the inside.

This is my old set up..or rater, my other set upP1030502.jpgP1030498.jpg

Hula, Nice Tundra. I'm right down the street from you. 2010 White Crew Max. Let me know if/when you plan on getting rid of those old rims.

I have an 08 that is slowly becoming a truck I can get into the mountains in. Just completed the expedition rack and lift… Bumpers and roof top tent to follow in the next few weeks.

I have had half a dozen Toyotas over the years and the Tundra was my first choice this time around, but like the poster above I ended up with a Ram 2500 with more features and payload (double) for the same money ( I ended up buying a used one with 10k on it, but even new was similar $ to the Tundra)

Quick trucks but towing is not their forte like any gasser. I met a Canadian guy in Yosemite with one. He was towing a 22' trailer and getting 7-9mpg. He wanted to know why it swayed all over the road. He had a quality hitch with swaybars. Toyota put some nice Bilstein's on there but equipped the truck with p-rated passenger tires as do domestic 1/2 ton manufacturers. Next stop was Discount Tire for some e-rated shoes.
I don't get the small gas tank either. Transferflow offers a 44 gal. replacement, but of course, it's not legal to sell in California.
It'll be interesting if they put a diesel in their trucks. I drove a Hino medium duty for 260K at work. Inline four w/Allison. Most dependable, tough rig I've ever enjoyed driving.

It is?

Tundra is mostly made in the USA.

Dodge, Ford, Chevy...have whole trucks and/or engines built in Mexico...

"Domestic" is getting to be a grey area anymore.

Tundra, the only truck made in Texas.

That is the billboard I see when I head into Houston. But I agree, this is the wrong forum.

Well, Texas is like a foreign country. "I am from Texas!. What country are you from?" ;)

Yeah, comparing a Tundra to diesel 3/4 ton is apple to oranges.

I dunno, if Toyota will ever make a heavy duty diesel Tundra, I just don't know if the market demands it. While the Tundra is great light duty truck...Toyota has a hard enough time selling those. People are just too hung up on what is domestic.

It is not necessarily where the vechile is manufactured but who owns the manufacturer. It would be the same as if you were overseas . The tundra maybe made abroad but it is the domestic and Ford, Chevy and Dodge would be imports. The others are simply saying there is a thread for Toyota this thread is for American auto companies. I don't think they are bashing the tundra.
