I actually love the second option. Leave the bed. Seems like flatbeds are a great idea, but for the effort, you could hire a local fiberglass fabricator-type, and still drive your truck as is. These are by far my favorite builds on this forum. Please keep us updated on your decision. If, and when, you go with a flatbed, your flip is still useable, and modifiable for your new setup.

It would certainly be less work to just run with the original bed of the truck however Ive found ever since Ive had this truck that the short bed is kind of a disapointment when it comes to hualing stuff. Just having the extra width over the wheel wells would increase the space by alot. I have 2 big dogs that do all our trips with us, that with all the gear and your out of space.

Some sort of lost...
Non of the versions shown have any bed modifications or tent modifications. I would be modifying only the lower section of the flip pac. I think I may just have to bump up the flatbed on the priority list to make this all work out since I think the rear chop is terribly ugly and the front chop not worth the effort since Id like to go to a flatbed eventually anyways. Will see though.

Oops, my bad! Im away from home using a cell phone, so I didnt see that photoshop very well.

So heres a rough flatbed version as well as a shortened version

The flat bed would be awfully cool if you incorporated some swing down door/steps combo.

From experience with my Wildernest...crawling in and out of the tailgate is a pain.

I wouldn't angle the back of the Flip-Pac like a Wildernest, I have broken the glass twice from rocks bouncing up from the road pinging off my trailer.
That and I couldn't use a hitch mount carrier for my dirt bike...actually sold it because of issues with the back being angled.

The flatbed design is the best. It sounds like you know what will work best for you. I agree, the short bed has its disadvantages, but that will be the best of both worlds.

Have you considered building a bed extension to fit under the Flippac? At the bottom of the extension, it could angle up from where your bed ends, replacing your tailgate and boxing in the edges. At the top the edge would meet the rear corner of the Flippac. It could even be designed to include a step that folds down similar to the LC/camper pic directly above this post. Best of both worlds, because it's easily undone if you ever have to sell the truck/Flippac.

Not sure if you get the picture...sorry, I don't have to patience to Photoshop it right meow.

That sounds like a great idea, and a heck of a lot simpler.
