Anyone considering building a GX460?

I suspect the Prado bumpers and snorkel will be adaptable w/o serious issue... but until someone actually does it, it is still?? The US distributors might bring the stuff in? Gears, lockers, shocks, etc should all be easy.

I am going to build a GX460 next. I love my GX470 all built up, so I have to wait until it becomes old hat first :)

Mule Expedition Outfitters in Issaquah, WA built a nice 460 that I've seen in person and it is impressive. I don't know all of the specs but give them a ring and ask them...they are super friendly and always willing to help:

I'm hoping the prices on the early 460's come down soon...I love the 470 and it's on the top of list of another truck to build but I also the 460 would be nice with crawl control and it's updated interior.

Absolutely - just bought a new one today - but it's going to be the wife's mall-crawler. I might inherit it as a replacement for my 100 series some day.

I had the prev gen GX. If left stock, I def prefer its fit/finish/looks/luxury over the 4R, esp since gen to gen, the Lexus comes with that silky V8.

The problem end of day for those who like to lift, put big tires (me), etc is the paltry aftermarket ecosystem. Sure you'll have your modded GXs here and there, helpful backyard garage forum guys who will chime in at times, but you'll seriously miss what I'd call volume of activity. Airbag certified bumpers built for your exact model. Snorkels. Suspension kits. Many mods are left to chance if you dare to mod at all. It took all of 7 years for ICON suspension to put out a full suspension kit specific for the non-AHC legit 200. Why? Because USA company needed to see demand overseas since they sell so few of them domestically. Bagged North America GX? Forgetaboutit.

With the LC, you're banking on decades upon decades of heritage and its loyal followers worldwide. 4R/Prado, same deal. GX is exclusively North American. There's a reason why you don't see dedicated forums and subsections toward the GXs. People who buy these also cross-shop against the BMW X5. Sequoia, same story. Cross-shopped w/ the mall crawl Tahoe. Always a 2nd class citizen looking at scraps.

There's a reason why Vegas is so popular with the partying set. You go there to party with party-goers. You can be diff and stick to the Celine Dion show, but that's not why I go to Vegas, personally speaking.

Umm...as with other Toyotas, it's a global-based chassis and shares many compatible components with the AUS, SA, EU spec Prado as well as 120/150 series NA-spec 4Runner/FJC.

That's fine and dandy, but call up Slee, ICON, King, CruiserOutfitters and ask them what parts they sell for your GX v lc, 4r, fj... crickets, bud.

That's not the answer that Kurt from CO gave me when I asked about bumpers, suspension, snorkel, etc., etc. for a GX (Hi Kurt! :luxhello:). As for Slee, while they specialize in Land Cruisers, they are completely capable of obtaining ARB/OME, TJM and other vendors wares for the models you listed. Adventure Driven had no problem getting Icon suspension for their GX (http://expeditionportal.com/featured-vehicle/) and Cruiser Outfitters offers offers items for 4Runners too! Wowzers! Ermigosh, follow this link to see Slee's suspension page for 4Runners: http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/4runner_suspension.htm...cray, cray, I tell ya'!

What's the world coming to?

of course they're going to say they can sell you goods, man. so how about this? get the GX (i don't know if you own one already or you're just playing pretend here) and get those parts ordered to fit on your GX w/ minimal fuss. Snorkel for the gx. arb bumper for the gx, etc.

and i'm not sure if you're just not reading or what, but you're proving my point. plenty of parts for the high volume 4r, fj... gx page? crickets.

Minimal fuss, coming right up:

Lot of well-documented example out there. And minimal fuss is objective. Do you know what is entailed to install an ARB bumper on a 5-Gen 4Runner or current model-year Tacoma? Yes, you're going to have to trim plastic. And those ARB bumpers Slee sells to owners of LX470's? Yes, some cutting required. Not all of us live in a bolt-on world and if you can't take a little ingenuity with the installation of something more than a cup holder, you might be in the wrong place. I'm not out to prove your point, I'm merely pointing out what's already been done but a handful of other like-minded folks, pioneers even, who have explored and proven the capability of the 120/150 GX/Prado.

We are talking specifically about the gx buddy. Not the 120 platform. *see thread title*Lol smh internet people.

And for every one supposed amazing gx build thread, I can show you tens of thousands of others featuring more worthy models to build off of.

We're all aware of the other models that can be used, no need to be belittling like that. What's wrong with exploring options? That's how progress is made. Feel free to take your attitude elsewhere.
