Anyone ever converted a fire truck

I think this is somewhere on video, or one similar (there's two?? - eek!!!) and the late Mr Sharkey's Bus Barn had it featured also I believe. it may be from NZ ( those ANZACs are such "crazy peoples") or check out Roger's Turtles have Nice Shells website. http://housetrucks.com/maindex.html

I found Spartan makes (or used to make) a crew cab 4x4 chassis, called the Metro Star 4x4, as a base for a fire truck or other types.

I have contacted them but haven't heard back on availability or pricing.

I always thought a 4x4 or 6x6 Oshkosh, or similar, airport truck would be cool, but with the rear engine it would be an interesting, and probably challenging, build.

I've seen a couple of Land Rover and Land Cruiser brush trucks that have been converted to expedition style with rooftop tents as well as some of the old German VW bus fire trucks.

Although just a support fire truck I am in the process of converting a Mercedes 1120 AF that we imported from Europe. I have removed the rear box and am replacing with a Total Composites one. It is full time 4wd with high/low range, lockers rear and center, inline inter-cooled turbo 6 diesel and we got close to 13mpg when we brought it from FL to VT. Once we upgrade the tires we should get just over 13mpg.
