anyone know of a headlight upgrade

1991 Ford f150, the big plastic covers are yellow and dull. I was going to order a set of replacements from LMC but I would really like to find a upgrade with glass covers. I have found upgraded LED rear lights but so far nothing for the headlight.

The Euro style headlights from LMC with the Halogen bulbs should be better then stock. But I have no experience with this setup.

There are ways to deal with the dulling of the plastic, but I do not know about the yellowing. Might try a plastic polish before spending a bunch of money on new parts. Search as there are techniques to get dull back to nearly new looking and performing.

I polished the headlights on my Grand Cherokee using Mothers Metal polish.

It can easily be done by hand rubbing in overlapping circles and then buffing with a clean cloth. When I was all done and cleaned up I put some Rain-X on them as the final finish coat.

Amazing difference, I can actually see where I'm going now.

I used the 3m kit as well. Makes a huge difference in appearance, and amount of light getting through the lens.

You could probably get similar results with fine sand paper 1000 to 1500 to 2000. The use some rubbing compound. Essentially that's all the kit is.

The problem with roamingaz lights (and mine) is they're yellowed from the inside. I've looked at those cleaning kits but not sure they'll work because you have to polish the lense through the bulb socket ... think building a ship in a bottle. And the Euro lenses from LMC won't fit.

If there's a way to polish and I'm missing something, please, do tell. oh, roamingaz, I'm upgrading the wiring to the headlights via LMC's kit ... hopefully that helps some.

You have a few options:

I have heard of baking composite headlight housings to get them to pull apart. Peel the plastic off, then polish both sides thoroughly, then glue them back together.

Shop eBay for new / like knew / or aftermarket replacement headlight housings. You can get some decent deals on eBay. I got a set of lightly used factory tailights for my Tahoe for only $45 shipped. Just got to be patient and shop some.

Go to a junkyard and see if they have a your vehicle in stock with intact headlights, if they do, perhaps they will be in better condition.

Highly recommended - replace your factory bulbs with an HID kit. I just outfitted HIDs to my Tahoe for only $60 and the difference is stunning. I used to have SilverStars in my low beams, which I really liked. I put 5000K (color rating goes by "K", lower the number, the more yellow the color, higher the more blue, 5K is a very pure white) HIDs in and they made the SilverStars look like little flashlight bulbs. Just amazed by the difference. I think the HIDs would help punch through any yellowing from age.

You can go to radio shack and get about a dozen diodes for .50 cents. Use one between the high and low beam control wires at the relays to keep both filmants lit at the same time for an even brighter light. The best part about the heavy duty harness is the load it removes from the headlight switch and the fact that the headlights now see full voltage.

02tahoemd:
do you have a write up of your HID conversion somewhere?

Hoping to see this as well since I haven't been able to find any true HID conversions for under $500. I've seen some of the fake "ricer" kits but had no idea what they would actually look like.

I just ordered new headlight assemblies for my Suburban so I'd love to HID them at the same time!

I checked every source I did when I was looking for glass assemblies and came up with nothing. I ordered a new set from O'Reilly's but they are plastic.

I've always used Mothers aluminum polish with great results. After a few minutes of buffing mine always looked like new. For less than $5 its worth a try :bike_rider:
