Are you interested in Tasmania?

Mates, in progress expeditions I posted a thread with images of some of my trips with fellow LR mates exploring Tasmanian tracks. I have heaps more photos to post but going by the luck of commnets in the thread looks like that trips in Oz and Tasmania are not interesting to the Expedition Portal members.
We done last week the East/West track, 27 km of heavy going of which 15 km are low first gear with diff locks in. Today we just finished the Saw Back Range track, another 30 km of very interesting 4wd and 6 hours on the wheel. I will upload images on my page www.pbase.com/arthurplottier and upload some on the thread in expeditions in progress if there are interest on Tasmania and Oz.
The news is that I just sold the Disco 98 Tdi300 and brought a Range Rover Hiline 88 V8 3,5 FI. Next week Justin Cooper will fit the Truetrack and axles from Keith. I just fitted 50mm rised springs and Delphy shocks. By next friday 235x83x16 Maxxis tires will be fitted and duel fuel (LPG & Petrol) by the 3rd of February.
I am really looking forward for a lot of fun.
Cheer from Hobart.

Nice pics Arthur! Looks like some fun trails. I assume there is ferry service from the mainland to Tasmania for vehicles? What's involved in that?

cheers

I can't give you all the details...........

But in 1977........I shipped a truck to Tasmania.........out of Melborne.

As I drove through Tasmania.........I thought it would be such an Awesome place to Explore! ...............But unfortunately........I ended up in Hobart.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_of_Tasmania <~ one example...keep searching

It's easy to do an online search for how to ship...........

Arthur;
Don't let a lack of replies put you off. This site has grown so much that it is easy to miss something of interest. I, for one, had not seen any of your earlier posts. I really enjoyed your Tasmania pics, we were there 2 years ago, had an incredible time, here is one of our pics form Tassie:

Sorry I can't remember the name of the trail this pic is from (somewher between Devonport and Strahan?), it was on the west coast, and this pic was taken at one of the widest points. A few clicks later we had to turn around because the trail got too narrow for the truck and camper.

Thanks Mark for the reply and nice image, some of the tracks in the west coast have quick sand and several 4wd are lost in deep sand.

All the tracks that we done so far are not suitable for a standard camping trailer or a 4wd "from the box" without mods.
The beatuty of Tasmania is that you can be in the middle of wildeners just 100 km away of a big city and is safe to camping any were.

Knowing a fair bit of South America I rate Australia as a more safe place to exploring and I believe that it is more safe than Africa as well.

I cannot understand why no more members of the forum have Oz on the list.

I will keep posting more images for the next week trips.

Arthur;

There may be more than you think, but for people in North America there are 2 big obstacles: time and money - as you know, its a big country, and its a long distance away!

I have only ever met 2 members of this forum in person and they were both in Oz. I met 2aroundtheworld in SA and XXXpedition in Canberra. Don Greene has also recently completed an around Oz trip. I would love to return, but from now on it will have to be short trips, no more 9 1/2 months trips, at least not until retirement (10-15 years from now).

I would give a left huevo to get to Australia and Tasmania. My 110 has been all through Australia, just without me.

I can only assume that their is a kitchen sink in there:)

There is supposed to be a picture of a GS loaded down. Pbase seems to have a problem with people linking photos.
