Brett,

Will you be at EXPO this year? If so, would you have any DC to DC chargers for sale? Thanks

Hi Brett, (or anyone else) currently my Ark Pak is in float mode after charging a new excide deep cycle. I was familiarizing my self with some of the outputs and checked the voltage of the inverter and it measured 80.8V . Checked my meter in a wall outlet: 121.5V, so I think my meter is OK.

Shouldn't it be reading closer to 120V with the meter? Or does it recognize a load and boost the voltage?

Scratchin' my head

Thanks, Steve

Sounds like a faulty inverter provided the battery is good. What voltage are you getting at the battery not hooked up to anything?

thanks for the reply, just checked it, 13.5V. I plugged a drop light (65W bulb) in to the inverter when it was reading 80V and it was as bright as when I plugged it into a wall outlet. I'm not sure if that means anything. The battery had a shipping date of May 2016 and I checked the voltage when I got it home, it was 12.8V. It went to float charge after about an hour.

How long was the period of time with no load when it went from 13.5 to 12.8? Was the battery removed from the Arkpak or the Arkpak turned off between those times? The only way to properly test the battery is when the Arkpak is not running because it draws current as well. Comparison readings should be taken after 8 hours off its last charge and with no load. If the 13.5 and 12.8 readings were taken while attached to the Arkpak, you will not be able to tell if you have a dead cell.

The 12.8 reading was the initial reading of the battery BEFORE I hooked it up to the Ark Pak. The 13.5 was this morning after it had been on float charge for a while and had no load except the ark pak itself.

It sounds like I should unhook the battery terminals and let it sit for 8 hours and take a reading, yes?

I'll do that and see what happens. Thanks again for your input.

Definitely let the battery rest to check it. Normally you would not have to do this but since there are questions about it being the battery or inverter you would let it rest for 8 hours and see if the voltage stays steady. Should be 12.8 or so when off float.
