Ark Pak - Questions and Queries

Hi Brett, (or anyone else) currently my Ark Pak is in float mode after charging a new excide deep cycle. I was familiarizing my self with some of the outputs and checked the voltage of the inverter and it measured 80.8V . Checked my meter in a wall outlet: 121.5V, so I think my meter is OK.

Shouldn't it be reading closer to 120V with the meter? Or does it recognize a load and boost the voltage?

Scratchin' my head

Thanks, Steve

Hi Monroe

great question to ask i need to follow up and check the specs related to the inverter once i have this information i will come back to you, sorry about being off the forum the last couple of days the weather in and around Sydney has been raining and where i live was flooded could not get in or out of my location so stuck at home we got something like 140mm plus of rain in 48 hours so just had to wait for the rain to recede and go down.

Thanks for the reply Brett, will be looking forward to what you find out.

Steve

Hi Steve

i have had it confirmed that the 80.8 volts is acceptable the reason is the inverter is a modified sine wave and does not peak as high as a pure sine wave, modified sine wave has a very square wave length and does not peak as high, you can plug an item item and test the outlet to confirm all is good, if you have any more questions please ask.

And that would explain the low wattage rating on the inverter and high amp draw. I hardly use mine so haven't bothered to check. Good information!

Brett, thanks for the information on the inverter. I learned something today. Hope you're drying out down there.

PIC4GOD, thanks again for your responses.

Fridge grounding while using car charger

The following warning is on page 9 of my Ark Pak manual:

WARNING - If charging ArkPak from vehicle using car charging lead (refer to page 2) and powering a fridge at the same time ensure the fridge is not earthed to vehicle chassis.

My plan is to have my ARB at the back of my truck bed, powered from the ArkPak in the cab. I was planning on using a single power lead from the ArkPak and finding a local ground closer to the fridge location. "I think" any ground I find towards the rear of the bed is going to be grounded to the chassis.

Is my plan feasible, or will I be in violation of the above warning?

Am I misunderstanding the warning?

Should I run hot AND ground from the ArkPak to the fridge?

Thanks to any and all that reply

Steve
