Armstrong tools ratcheting wrenches - good price

I have been looking for a set of ratcheting wrenches for awhile and I finally ordered a set, so I thought I would share the deal.

On the fjcruiserforum I found this post:

http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/tools/141193-deal-tools.html

Which describes the set as:
I've been looking to buy a set of SAE and metric ratcheting wrenches to add to my toolbox. I looked at the Gearwrench, Kobalt and Craftsman wrenches. Only problem is they're made in the Peoples Republic of China. Even though they're Chinese it's still a couple hundred dollars for a basic SAE and metric set.

In my search I figured I'd check out Uncle Sam's Retail Outlet. Uncle Sam's Retail Outlet sells new/excellent military surplus equipment to the public and sometimes they have tools available.

I was checking out their new products last night and found this for $135.00. I did some research and found out that Armstrong tools are made in America. Armstrong is owned by Danaher who also makes Gearwrench and a couple other brands. All the online reviews that I could find were very high on Armstrong's quality, fit and finish. Apparently Armstrong is a professional grade tool like Snap-On and Mac.

If you go on Sear's website the Sears 10 piece Armstrong Metric Set is on sale for $310.00 (the USMC is a 12 piece set) and the 7 piece Armstrong SAE Set is on sale for $207.00. (the USMC is an 8 piece set) That's $517.00 just for the wrenches. On top of that the USMC set also has deep sockets in the kit.

Figured I'd pass the info along for anyone else looking for something similar. If you take a look at their entire website they've got all kinds of other outdoor gear like Mickey Mouse boots, fleece bear suits, combat boots and most of it all is new.

I placed my order, for $175 shipped we will see. I'll update when I get them.

I'm very close, but with tax & shipping a set will cost me about the same, $176. Still a good deal, though not quite as tempting as $135. I would like it for the ratcheting wrenches, the sockets and screwdrivers are unneeded extras...but still :)

Thanks for sharing this here.

I just ordered a set on the website it said 10 left. So now I guess it'd be 9.
Here's one of my reasons for jumping on board this deal.
From the Armstrong website:

You'd think it'd be easy to figure out if something’s “Made in U.S.A.” If it’s made in America from materials that come from within the 50 states, then it’s “Made in U.S.A,” whether it’s a gym shoe or a ratchet set.
Seems simple enough to us at Armstrong Industrial Hand Tools. Even the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has historically agreed that “all or virtually all” of the components and processes used to make a product must be of U.S. origin to earn the “Made in U.S.A.” honor.
But some manufacturers have wanted to wrap themselves in red, white and blue...while using foreign-made components or processes in their products. They tried to get the FTC to relax the rules determining what’s “Made in U.S.A.” They said that partially America-made is close enough to call it “Made in U.S.A.”
We said that a partial truth is still a lie, and you said that “Made in U.S.A.” should mean just that. And the rest of America agrees.
After two years of public hearings, studies and reports, in December 1997 the FTC reaffirmed the obvious:
product will be considered “...all or virtually all made in the United States” only where “all significant parts and processing that go into the product are of U.S. origin.”

At Armstrong Industrial Hand Tools we believe that stamping our products “Made in U.S.A.” is a privilege that must be earned. You should know that:

Armstrong ratchets, sockets, wrenches and accessories are “Made in U.S.A.” - from forge to finish.
We are proud to assure you that Armstrong Industrial Hand Tools marked “Made in U.S.A.” have earned the honor.

So the next time one of our competitors tries to push off ratchets, sockets or wrenches made from foreign forgings as “Made in U.S.A.,” ask them for the honest truth.

Also the Apex group which includes gearwrench and a few others have the same warranty. I have broken a gearwrench and swapped it no questions asked at Sears. They even had to order it because it wasn't a size they had in the store.

I've had some HF tools with the lifetime warranty once they were replaced by a new model they didn't exactly want to honor the warranty.

I just received my tools.....YEAH BUDDY!!!

These things are super nice, arrived brand new in an un-opened boxed addressed to the USMC. The quality is just incredible, I am so stoked! I'm sure everybody who else ponied will be happy. I'll report after I get a chance to use them.

Sweet! I won't get my package until I return from the long weekend... maybe they will be worthy of a blog post? ;)

Thanks for the heads-up here on The Portal, if it wasn't for your sharing I wouldn't have ordered them.
