Article: Three-wash system will keep camp dishes clean

As per the dumping of the bleach the quantities required to only reach a 5ppm for cleaning is quite small.

Actually the amt (2tsp to 1gal) given in the article will give a Cl concentration of about 104ppm in your wash water. Significantly higher than the 4ppm usually used in drinking water and much, much higher than the 20ppb Cl required of water districts for delivery at the end of their water lines.

Dumping 100ppm Cl into the environment probably wouldn't be too good but so long as you didn't put it a stream, it wouldn't be too bad either.

I use a very weak solution of vinager and water in a spray bottle. Just spray everything down prior to use and you are good to go.

Most chlorine products including bleach and pool chlorine are very unstable in sunlight, I would think it is better to pour the waste water somewhere that gets a lot of sun and if possible on a hard surface such to prevent it from soaking in.

I think some folks are too worried about "germs."
I wash with standard dish soap, rinse, air dry, then towel dry and put them in the storage box.
Been doing it that way for 35+ years.
Hasn't killed me yet.
