Upper Antelope Canyon

It's a good thing Antelope Canyon was my last stop on this trip. There were 40MPH winds on the desert up top and sand was constantly falling on us while we were shooting. My poor 7D and 17-55mm lens took a 1 hour sand shower. even after cleaning with compressed air it's still not a happy camper. I'll be sending it in to Cannon for serious cleaning before my next use. Oh well, it was my only opportunity and it was worth it. :sombrero:

Brad, I'd say your patience at the expense of the equipment was worth it.

Speaking of patience, I think I would have been better off having my wife pose for this one... but she was [ahem] nursing the baby in the car...

The idea being that she was blowing the turbine...

Brad, whoa. Those last few posts of yours are stunning. Absolutely epic. I feel unworthy now by just posting the moon...

One of those days, it'd be great to try and meet up for a photo expedition.

I totally missed the wind turbine concept until I saw thew second post. Well done in the creative framing. :victory:

Thanks guys on the comments. It was one of those target rich opportunity trips. I came back with over over 1000 images. I bet I will be able to stay busy working through those for the quite some time looking for nuggets missed on the first pass.

Nice Moon shot Slavin. Just like on Earth horizontal lighting with shadows make the shot. :victory:

I agree, it would be fun pulling together a bunch of all the great photogs on this forum and go shoot together. Sadly it sems to be tough to do with all our diverse schedules and commitments. Here's to hoping we pull it off someday.

Thanks Brad. I think I took like 60 pictures of my daughter in that one pose (over 5 minutes or so). Hard for a 6 year old to stay focused that long. Funny thing is, that was actually THE LAST photo of the group.... I forgot to even out the depth of field and then kiddo had enough. I should have bumped the F-stop up a few more to make the turbine as sharp as kiddo. Oh well.

Just out of curiosity how are you shooting and editing those photos to have such a dynamic range in color and exposure? Did you adjust them as HDR? They look awesome!

They were all single images. I use Lightroom 4 which has excellent capability to tone down the highlights and bring up the shadows. If you push it too far it does end up looking like an HDR image. Hopefully I didn't push it too far. :sombrero:
