AT Tire Recommendations

The PO had fitted my '01 with P-rated Geolanders and they were absolutely horrible, wallowing and mushy and downright frightening. I replaced them as soon as I got home from the fly-n-drive.

I am extremely happy with my Toyo Open Country A/Ts in 265/75-16. They're wonderful on both dry and wet pavement, with minimal road noise. Excellent in snow and ice, surprisingly capable in the wet soil and mud here in the northwest, excellent on the slickrock of Moab. They're wearing very well and, very important to me (as my wife and I travel alone rather than with others) have withstood terrific punishment with no flats or failures when other rigs with E-ply truck tires were suffering multiple punctures from jagged rocks. They do chunk a bit on sharp volcanic basalt, but any tire will.

They were very reasonable, too. I have no reason to look for a different tire when these need replacement.

If you are considering an AT/MT hybrid, I'd suggest the Cooper ST/Maxx.
Outstanding performance in all conditions.

In the past I would have also suggested the Goodyear DuraTrac, however they stopped making them with 3-ply sidewalls.

I just purchased BFG AT KO2 32x11.50r15 for around 160 a tire from 4 Wheel Parts. It was $50 off a set of 4, seemed reasonable.

Don't fight it, BFG A/T. There not in stock, they are expensive, but they work. And please dont mention Coopers again....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
I guess I didn't impress you with my Cooper At3's Llyod?? Haha!

Well, as far as driving Cooper AT3s on the Rubicon forget about it, you need 3 ply..

Other than that my AT3s are quiet, haven't used them in mud, they are ok in the snow and everything else.

Thanks everybody.

My gut said BFG AT KO2, but I'm glad to hear others have had good experience with them on their Monteros. My XJ is a featherweight compared to this thing, so I wasn't sure about the LT tires (Load Range E), but sounds like they work well for these hefty ladies.

4wheelparts in Va Beach is having a one day sale/Jeep show thingy this weekend, so I think I'll take the wife and kids down there. The boys will have a blast, I'll save some money, and hopefully get everybody to the wedding we're supposed to be at that afternoon (so my lovely wife is happy). They're offering free mount and balance, plus a $50 rebate on these. 5 tires mounted and balance for right over $900 isn't bad. They can do an alignment there too, so there's a plus.

Happy trails,

John in Richmond
