Autohome Awning

Does anyone have any experience with Autohome Maggiolina awnings? I am curious as to how heavy they are and what is the pack size, but more importantly...how do they do in wind?

Thanks in advance!

I don't have any experience with the Auto home, but have had lots of luck with the Ezi-Awn 2.5 meter awning. I have it mounted on my LR3 and just returned from 2.5 months in Baja. We used it at all times when camping and in some pretty windy conditions. The best thing I ever did for my awning was getting a piece of mesh that cut the light and wind and enabled me to keep the awning out almost all of the time. I attached the awning via some bungy cords and attached the bungy cords to stakes in the sand. It cut the wind so much that we hardly ever had to put the awning up in higher winds. The thing I like about the Ezi-Awn is that it is self retracting and has a sturdy aluminum case that it stores in. I will say that no matter how much you spend or which awning you purchase, it is a very good investment!

cheers,

Thanks to both comments! I have the Maggiolina Extreme and am very serious about getting their awning, also I have been looking at a separate awning for the other side of the vehicle (i.e. Hannibal, Fiamma...). I am looking forward to the next issue of Overland Journal for their awning reviews. I needed some confirmation on the Autohome awning as I really want one to work with my RTT.

After the Expo this year we took the following week and camped for 7 days on our way back to Colo and had a few cold, wet, windy days in Utah. The home made tarp was flapping so much I was ready to dump it, not to mention I still get in and out of the tent wet as the awning did not reach the top of the Maggiolina.

Its all a trial and error learning experience!!

Thanks!

Roger,

there are 2 styles of awning for the Maggiolina tents. The older style is a single piece afair which you can get a triangular change room for.

The newer version is fully enclosed.

I have the older version and have used it on occasions, I would be interested to know how well the new ones stand up to overland use.
