So, I have been thinking about a dual battery setup for a while now and wanted to hear what people think and what there experience has proven because after extensive research I am not so sure it is the best option to suit my needs. I have an 01 taco that has taken me everywhere and proven to be the amazing camping rig that I hoped it would be when I brought it. I have a sleeping platform that I built last winter that changed the game for me this past summer. It was great. All my gear was ready to go and the custom bed and mattress I made/bought proved to be better than I could have ever imagined. When I designed it I built an area that would house a spare battery because I had planned at the time to add one when funds would allow. However as I stated earlier I am not sure if it is the best option to suit my needs. At the end of the day I am looking to run a bunch of auxiliary amenities (not necessarily at the same time) when I am camping. Primarily I want to be able to run a stereo when I am out camping and possibly a small light or fan in the bed and not drain my battery. I would also love to be able to plug an electric blanket to heat things up when I am camping into the winter months. So the long and short of it is should I invest in a dual battery setup or should I just get a bad *** battery and possibly go the solar route or even just charge it when I am in between camping trips. For what it would cost I have also been pricing out small generators that could do most of what I am looking for. With all that said I would love to be told that the dual battery is worth the money and that it is my best option. I like the idea of being totally set up and ready to go but I have read a lot of reviews that said most of the dual set ups are garbage and unreliable. Any opinions would be great? If you have a set up and would share I would be very grateful! Thanks for your input.
