I bought three recently for lightweight and bulky items, and complemented them with several "industrial" duty smaller clamshell lid totes from HD also. At $7 each, they're a good deal for the heavier/more dense items, like my recovery gear and my dutch oven/accessories. They are made of better/thicker material than the clear totes and the lids lock together better for stacking. The lids also are thicker and better reinforced than the clears, as shown. I don't think they will cave in like the clears can. The have slots in the top of the lid for tie downs. The ones I got have finger contours in the handles and they sell some that don't have that. They are not as good, in my opinion. Different HD's have different stock, as I found at three different stores in the San Diego area.

Those are really good boxes. I have a bunch of those that I use for chase boxes for offroad racing. One bad thing - They don't seal worth a darn, dust and dew build up on the top and make their way in. I have seen guys make simple covers for the tops. Good idea if you plan to use them alot.

I had some of these awhile back when I used a PU truck for work. I kept PVC fittings in them. They held up great for being outside in the rain, snow, sun etc. They are not tight at all but good for certain items.

Could not find the yellow top box at the Sebring Fl. HD, but picked up 2 boxes called "Power Packer" (20 gal). They were about twice the money, have a hinged lid, and are pretty ridgid, and stackable. Filled them with stuff, strapped them to the roof rack with rachet straps (very tight) and headed for Mass. They were exposed to wind, rain, sleet, snow, and hit a bird @ 70 mph. When we arrived everything was clean, dry and undamaged. So I was pretty satisfied even though they more pricey. Might be worth a look.

We used (3) of the black/yellow Lowes boxes for our gear while driving to Panama last winter. Lots of in and out (every day).

They wore well, but do have one annoying habit: when you stack them the lower lid (yellow) tends to stick (friction) to the upper box bottom (black) and this can be very inconvenient when you want to put a box down (in the mud) on its bottom.

I purchased one these boxes at Lowes about 12 months ago because it was waayyy sturdier than my action packer or rubbermaids. I was bummed about them not having latches so you cant just throw it in the truck and drive down the freeway 'cause the lid can fly off. Right now its stuffed with a Lincoln SP175 wire feed, 11 lbs spool, and a small bottle of argon. Pretty cool.

The lid on mine snaps on pretty firmly, I'm not worried about the lids flying off personally.

Also, my Pelican 1550 fits pretty well sitting on top too. Some extra room side to side, but front to back its a nice snug fit in the top.
