Axle Breather on a DII

Hey everyone!

I have snorkel and deep water wading kit on my 2001 DII.
I noticed the other day the the breather tube coming from the rear axle has chaffed through about 8 inches from where it goes into the axle. I need to replace it. Does anyone know:

- How the connection is made to the axle? Is it a push fitting that you stick the tube into? If so how do I get the old one out without damage to the fitting?

- What is the type and size of the tube?

- Where do you buy such tubes? I don't need a full breather kit.

LOcal hardware store probably has the right size tubing by the foot, although it won't be black most likely.
