Back in a van-FINALLY or Overland-ish style build: take 2

I'm slowly getting to some of the small detail projects i have had on my list for the van. I've always been a big fan of 60-70's van culture and the wild design of the time. When we bought an embroidery machine about a year ago i knew exactly what i was gonna do. Our van is named Fiona (i name every vehicle and its 99% of the time female) and needed to put her name loud and proud on the seat headrest. Spent some quality time on my Mac using Illustrator to channel my inner 70's child. Had to get the script i had in my head for so long on screen in colors matching the interior fabrics. This was fun for me as my past life was day in/day out using Illustrator as a graphic designer/production sublimation specialist in the sports apparel industry. It was like riding a bike, but glad i dont spend all day sitting at my Mac anymore. Sourced the proper fabric, embroidered and sew it up. Not as wild as the era that inspired, but i quite like it. Ironically I've wanted to do this since my first van oh so long ago, '66 VW split window bus named "Van-essa".

Another project was rear door trash bag, "trasheroo" if you will. I fully intended to make one but found one the exact dimensions i needed on Amazon for $45, thats cheaper than my fabric cost--let alone my time. It's not bad, see how it holds up and maybe ill be making one in the future anyway. I modified it some for better fit and added some grommets to the bottom for drainage/venting. BUT, thought it needed some "Flair", and the first thing that came to mind was Oscar the Grouch. So...drew up a nice vector file in Illustrator again and here we go.

My list is finally shrinking, still need to visit my rear door interior ideas that have been swimming a while..maybe soon

Ok, some more quality time at the sewing machine for me, and i guess i still sew OK. i FINALLY got done what i had planned for the interior rear door L-Track system that i eluded to way back in post #82. The most prominent idea i have for this area, only took me a lil over a year--geez time really does seem to fly with each passing year. Anyway, a set of bags that can be taken on or off for what ever the next particular trip entails. Take the driver side off and install the ski rack (from post #82) in winter, or all off to strap down life vest or other beachy related things (that happened last summer). or what ever, endless possibility.

I sized them so there would still be some L-track exposed, thinking quick fist mounts for hatchet, awning crank, shovel etc. For some reason wife 1.0 had 4 jackets on the overhead cab shelf --they fit in 1 bag clearing up a lot of room there.

So, my intention was to make my prototype bag (smallest one) out of this brown fabric. This is a brown color of the FMVSS-302 fire rated fabric that we use extensively, and that fire rating is actually law for vehicle interiors. The brown was sent to us by mistake from our supplier and we were told to just keep it. Since it is a really $$$$$ fabric, thought prototype in brown, then resew in black. I really ended up liking the brown and it matches cabinets and lightens up the interior some--so stuck with it and am quite pleased with the look.

our real workhorse machine, pretty much do everything on it until the real heavy hitter walking foot is needed

Not much else on this van to check off my list--guess i can say its maybe done--but are they ever?
